It's hot everywhere. I can recall many Christmas Days when the temperature was over 37.8C (100F) though a few degrees lower is not uncommon and very welcome when it happens.
Many Australian families spend the day at the beach or in the pool and only a few have a hot Christmas dinner with all the trimmings - it's simply too hot to really enjoy it. Our family compromises by having a hot turkey with salads, and we have hot Christmas pudding with cold cream and cold custard and fruit salad. Like in North America, Europe and the UK though, it's a big day for most people's extended family with gifts under the tree and that type of thing.

their seasons are opposite the US, so christmas here (winter) is summer there! and the toilets flush the other way too!

Contrary to most of the posts here, Christmas isnt always hot. The last 4 years have actually been quite chilly - here in Victoria anyway.

We have more seafood for Christmas lunch than hot food. WE still have all the typical European foods as well.

CHristmas eve is usually spent watching the carols on tv which are televised from the Myer music bowl here in Melbourne. It doesnt snow, and it is a great time.

it usually VERY hot!! coz xmas is in the middle of summer.

everyone is very busy doing christmas shopping and stuff.

carols by candlelight is held on christmas eve.

lots of people have barbecues etc to celebrate christmas. playing cricket at that time of year is popular.

HOT
i love australia at christmas.
Classic christmas day: (for me anyway)
wake up BOILING HOT at midday,
open some prezzies
Have bacon and eggs
get in your pool, or head to the beach where you stay till dinner time
come home and have a barbie with everyone you've ever met, or if you want have a classic turkey

seriously its the best
but as a tourist it's great to head to the beach, and
do not forget your thongs (or flip-flops. whatever you wanna call em), though actually i prefer no shoes.
we also have fireworks at new years

I am a library and information student. Through my research, I would suggest you check out http://www.worldofchristmas.net/christmas-world/australia.html
to find out what Australia is like during Christmas. This website, offering Christmas information about several countries/continents is wonderful and will provide you with weather during the holiday as well as customs you may see practiced there during Christmas. Enjoy!

whereistiger
Hot! Lots of shrimps being thrown on barbies, and budgie-smugglers (speedos) on the beach!
