Parliament House & Old Government House featuring Victorian sandstone.

The Victorian elegance of The Mansions in William Street.
Customs House with its corinthian columns and copper dome.

The "Heritage Trail" taking in St. John's Cathedral, still unfinished since 1901.

St. Stephen's Church, the city's oldest with the adjoining and more recent cathedral.

The Old Windmill (Observatory) constructed during the original convict settlement.

The Old Commissariat Store of the same era.
The famous Gabba sports facility, home of cricket and AFL

Plus beautiful theme parks, laid back atmosphere, and warm-friendly people. That's just how aussies are. :)

When you visit, here's a nice place to stay:

or if you want to be near Brisbane CBD, here's a good choice:

Enjoy Brisbane!

Australia is all about lifestyle...perfect. City and beach culture all in one.
Brisbane is a lovely city. If you are able to travel 1 1/2 south to the Gold Coast there are many large theme parks. I am sure there would be tours from Brisbane if you wanted to look into that.
If you do travel down the coast you can also visit the beaches around Surfers Paradise.
As an Aussie I can tell you we are far from snobby....
enjoy!

Hi I live in the Gold Coast 80kms south of Brisbane. The Aussies are very friendly, I came here from Zimbabwe and settled in very well with them. It is a safe and friendy part of the country. As for what to the list is endless. If you like the theme parks it may pay you to stay in the Gold Coast a few days. Whilst in Brisbane get a day pass on the trains, busses and ferries. It is cheap and you can get a lot of sights in. All the other suggestions are great, especially those that highlight the great things to do in the surrounding areas. But for me, having living in Brisbane for years, and now living in London, the thing that impresses me the most about the city when I return for holidays in Southbank.

Southbank is an area beside the Brisbane River dotted with man-made lagoons and a sand beach with a view of the buildings of the CBD. There are great places to swim on a hot day, BBQ areas, cafes, bars and walking tracks right there. It is unbelievable.

Having dinner on top of Mt Cootha while the sun goes down and the lights of the city come on is a close second.

Riding a bike through the Boondall Wetlands is another great Brisbane-only experience.

While you're in Brisbane, you've got to visit the home of Noman Hill. He's an architect that's very well known in Australia. He actually lived in his masterpiece until he died in the mid eighties. His home's open to the public now, and the only charge is for parking.

There are lots of good things to do in Brisbane. I always take our visitors to the following places:
Southbank (from there you can catch a ferry up or down the river - the university and Newstead House are good stops).
The Mt Cootha Lookout and at the bottom of Mt Cootha is a beautiful botanic gardens with a planetarium as well.
The city mall is a nice place for lunch and you can go into the City Hall and catch the lift up to the top of the tower clock for a view of the city.
Out in the burbs there is Manly beach, Wynnum Beach, Wellington Point, Victoria Pt (catch the ferry out to Coochie Mudlo island for a half day.) The list goes on....
