A few days before your trip.. try to start adjusting yourself to the time change.. as well as get sleep on your flight.. Drink lots of juice.. I know.. I took a 23 hour flight to Australia... and then 2 years later.. another one back to the states.. it's grueling.. but I was able to pull through in like 3 days.. and I have 2 children as well.. ;) |

I did an 8 hour time change from Glasgow Scotland to Las Vegas USA, only way to overcome it, is to keep moving once you land, change your watch , go local time, and do as the locals do, eat same time and go to bed same time, then you will be on their schedule and its easier on the body. Also going against the sun is the wordt to try and fly with it. |

The key is to get a good night's sleep the night before you travel. Then sleep as much as you can during the flight, but more into the second half of the flight (whether it's 12 hours or 24 hours worth of flying). Then after you land try to stay up as long as possible on the first night. If you can't stay up too long the first night, gradually increase the time you can stay up each night. |

Drink lots of fluids while on the plane. Adjust you're watch as soon as you get on the plane and act accordingly. Even if you've been awake ages and land at 9am local time, dont go to bed! You'll take ages to get sorted if you give in and sleep! Just keep going.
I went to New Zealand a couple of times, the first time I woke up at 4am in Cork and went to the airport. I had to fly Cork-Heathrow-LA-Auckland. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong! Flight delays, missing baggage, cancelled tickets. . . I landed in Auckland airport at 6am. I hadn't slept in 55hrs. My aunt warned me not to sleep so I kept active (fresh air is important) and stayed awake until 10pm. The next day I had no jet lag symptoms whatsoever. |
