That would be the lovely city of Canberra

The capital of Australia is Canberra. At the time of federation (1901) the capital was Melbourne, but the Melbourne-Sydney rivalry was alive and well even then, so a compromise was found. Canberra is half way between Melbourne and Sydney.

To whoever said that the 'President' lives there- we have a Governor-General (the Queen's representative) not a president.

The capital of Australia is Canberra which in the southeast part of the country. Settled in 1824, it replaced Melbourne as the capital in 1908. Its population is 311,000.

Trust me, 'cos after you've opened the webpage below, right in front of your eyes you'll see the words, "the capital of Australia is Canberra."

The capital city of Australia is Canberra - Australian Capital Territory. But it is not famous because has no touristic attractions, a lot of people consider Sydney to be the capital of AUS.
