Although (in my opinion) Sydney is without a doubt the best city in Australia, it can also be the most expensive.
Simply take a look at the realestate.com (http://www.realestate.com.au) and you can easily see the ridiculously high rent amounts for homes with ridiculously low standards in Sydney.
But hey, I do not know what you income and budget is so Sydney might not be completely out of your reach. If you can not to afford to live in the CBD and you do still want to live and study in Sydney then you might want to think about living a little further away from the CBD and traveling to your place of study.
In the year 2007 Sydney ranked #21 in the top 50 most expensive cities, while no other city of Australia is in the top 50.
New figures from the Real Estate Institute of Australia suggest that Canberra is the most affordable city of Australia.
However in terms of studying fashion, I am not too sure how appropriate or suitable Canberra would be for you.
I personally think Brisbane seems quite reasonable in terms of rent and Queensland petrol prices are allot cheaper then other states (I'm not sure if you drive).
I think Melbourne is also very expensive but obviously not as expensive as Sydney.
Hobart and Adelaide are also allot less expensive, however I think for your studies that Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne would be better.
I hope I have not added to your confusion, lol. But do some research and find out what city can offer you the best course for you to study and then you can research the housing costs associated with living in that city.
Good luck and I hope this helps!!
All the best with your studies! |

I heard Perth is becoming a lot more expensive these days.
And it's not as 'fashionable' as the other cities...like not right into the fashion thing. |

Hobart and Adelaide are the cheapest, but there may not be any fashion design courses in those cities. Melbourne is known as the fashion capital of Australia. |

Hobart, or try the many Uni's away from the capital cities such as Armidale in N.S.W. |

Sydney has many of Australia's finest Universities. However, as you know, it is the most expensive city in Australia. Therefore, I won't recommend a new student should start here.
Melbourne and Brisbane are cheaper so you may want to look in those cities.
Adelaide and Hobart are very cheap but there aren't many opportunities and work there.
Personally, I believe you should get the top education there is in Sydney, before moving to other cities. It will be worth the investment.
All the best. |

Melbourne is better and cheaper than Sydney. Also better fashion. Go to realestate.com.au and run a search for affordable accomodation. |
