i'm no longer living in perth either and i do miss it...:(
I am surprised that no one has mentioned Yanchep, for the caves and wildlife, penguin island off the coast near rockingham, John forrest national park with lake leschenaultia, the maze just near wanneroo, botanical golf, margaret river chocolate factory in the swan valley....mmm the list goes on and on....making me homesick

There are a lot of interesting places to visit in Perth. When you arrive
go in to Forrest Place there is the Western Australia Visitor Centre there, they will give you heaps of brochures and information there on what to do you can then make your mind up from that

The airport lol! Nah...just kidding. Sort of.

There's Kings Park, quite beautiful but not too much to see in summer as it's a bit hot. Cottesloe beach is nice, as is Fremantle (Little Creatures Brewery has great food and view) The zoo is pretty cool.

Better places are a bit further out. The Swan Valley, Margaret River Region (3hrs drive south) The Bungle Bungles (North) and such. The best thing to do is hire a car and drive. And drive. And drive.

As a city we are very very isolated. It's dull and boring in the city centre and culture wise there's nothing. But the beaches and the landscape are wonderful. So best be adventurous.

Oh and coming here in summer. You're nuts. Seriously. Bring so much sunscreen and drink buckets of water cos it doesn't just get hot here...it boils.

Our beaches are pretty famous and are considered the best in the country. Also the swan valley has great wineries.

All of the above, but if you like fish, you MUST go to Cicerellos. They do the best fish and chips that I have ever tasted.
There are plenty of pelicans outside to pick up the scraps.

Also Fremantle market is great. And somewhere up the coast around Scarborough is an amazing aquarium. Cant remember the exact location.

Enjoy!!!

Okay aside from what everyone has said, I think that a must visit is Little Caesar's pizzeria up in Mundaring. Their pizzas have won international competitions! :D

Perth people are a bit hard on themselves, I thought there was a lot to do. Visit Fremantle and the old prison there, Rottnest Island is great, you can walk or cycle around and see the little quokkas (like a tiny kangaroo) that are very tame, Perth is famous for its wildflowers in Spring and carnivorous plants, you can take tours to see them. Perth is a pretty city and you can walk along the edge of the Swan River or take a ferry across. There are interesting rock formations (called the Pinnacles I think?) a short trip outside of Perth.

Perth has many attractions inside and outside the city. Beautiful Perth hills are famous in tourist field and also having most attractive beaches. All inner areas of Perth are very charming that one should visit for getting relaxation and peace of mind. Aussie Campervans offer campervan rental in Perth at competitive rates and to suit all kinds of travel patterns.

i would go see the cricket ground, but that's just me.

perth is the most isolated major/capital city in the world. there's not much else around.

Kings Park: Nice for a picnic or just a look around
Hillarys Boat Harbour: A marina with lots of food, touristy things and a good view
Swan Bells: A landmark by the Swan River, if you don't actually go in, take a look around, it's an interesting area.
Fremantle: A port south of Perth with lots of culture, cafes, and food. A good day out.

Perth has some interesting things to do and see. I now live here and get lots of overseas visitors. This is what they enjoy:

Kings Park - huge park on the western edge of the city. There are several interesting areas. Each roadside tree is dedicated to a fallen hero from the war and has a plaque.

Rottnest Island - a 40-minute island off the coast. great snorkelling.

Margaret River Region - rugged coast, huge caves, great wine and wineries. About 3 hours south of Perth.

Caversham Wildlife Park - set in Whiteman Park about 30 minutes north of the city. Get up close with WA wildlife.

Fremantle Jail - various tours depending on how much action you want.

Fisherman's Harbour - including Cicerellos Fish and Chips (look for the canoe on the ceiling with bite-marks from a shark attack). Also little creatures brewing for great beer.

Hillarys Boat Harbour - marina and home to AQWA aquarium.

Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches - see and be seen, but bring at least factor 30 sunblock, and lots of it.

Swan Valley - several good wineries only 30 minutes from Perth city.

Perth Mint - in the city, and a quirky half day out especially if you like gold.

WA Museum has some fascinating exhibits including a very rare Megamouth Shark preserved in liquid, and a blue whale skeleton.

Eating out is generally good, although not too many high-end restaurants. A small Chinatown on William Street is pretty good. Shopping is OK but not World-class.

A car is a must to get the best from your trip. Bayswater have the best rates (about AU$20 per day) but check for specials.

Well Hello ♥

I am a recent escapee of perth, i have been living in sydney for a year. To Bec, who said its boring, trust me its a lot better than you realise, you shouldn't take it for granted. Oh, and I am suprised that someone who has lived in perth her whole life, spelt fremantle 'freemantle.'

But to answer the question, you should go to fremantle for sure. Its the place i miss most in perth. Its got a great arts scene, fantastic food (especially italian and seafood), some of the best coffee in the country, great quirky stores and markets and some wonderful beaches. The old insane asylum (now an art museum) is worth a visit as is the prison, choc full of history. The whole town has incredible preserved victorian architecture, especially in the west end. A nice spot to take in a view of the town is from monument hill. Ohhh, and in east fremantle the area where the river meets the ocean is very nice for a walk around.

If you're in perth during summer you should do some of the beaches, scarborough, cottesloe, city beach, floreat and my personal favourite (beautiful sand, perfectly clear water but not too wavy) leighton beach in north freo.

Margaret River is a good idea, again good beaches. But a must if your into cheese or wine, its WAs most famous wine regions. There are also a bunch of really cool cave tours.

Its not for everyone, some might find it dull but i love the little town of york about 90 minutes away from the city.

In the city itself, you ought to have a good half a day for King's park, they have awesome flower shows if you go at the right time of year. I would recommend a walk around the river (not the whole thing obviously. For a bit of high end fashion shopping King Street is the spot to go. The supreme court gardens are very nice also. Northbridge is good for nightclubbing or food, there is a tiny little chinatown in northbridge. The zoo on the other side of the river in south perth is pretty good.

You asked for one place you must visit. Its hard to answer without knowing your personal tastes. I have a huge freo bias however and i bet whatever it is you will find it in freo.
