I went to Hamilton Island for my honeymoon in 2003 and it was beautiful, there is plenty to do, especially if you hire a golf buggy and explore the island. It was the best holiday of my life and not just because it was my honeymoon but because everything was worth seeing and the people on the island are very friendly too!

We stayed in the Reef View Hotel (check it out at http://www.oztravel.com.au/travel_mall/hotels/Reef_View_HotelWhitsun.html) and the breakfasts there was BEAUTIFUL!!! We stayed for 7 nights and everything (meals, accomodation and spending money) cost us AUD$2,500.

I would highly recommend it for sure - would love to go back there again...

Check out some more on Hamilton Island at the following sites:

http://www.hamiltonisland.com.au/

http://www.queenslandholidays.com.au/destinations/whitsundays/places-to-visit/hamilton-island/

http://www.hamiltonislandresort.com/

Hope this helps and if you do decide to go there, enjoy!! :)

most affordable is Hamilton Island - you can get many different styles of accommodation and several restaurants to choose from. If you really want to save - you can get a unit with cooking facilities & buy groceries from the local store and bakery.
or if you want to really save - stay at Airlie Beach and take day trips to the islands.
check your travel agent such as flight centre

Weli am only twelve, but apparently Daydream island is REALLY nice. I'm pretty sure its not too much money but u should check out a website about it.

I went to Dunk Island with my bride 22 years ago. For what I remember of the Island, it was really very pleasant! I think we went scuba diving on the reef. That was exceptional.

We took our three children to Daydream Island (about 10 years ago).. and it was a hoot. The kids really loved it. My wife took our then 7 year old on a bush walk.. he ended up rescuing her as they took a short cut up a cliff face. Silly! But fun. We all went snorkelling and scuba diving off the reef. So beautiful.

The island resorts change ownership and get "make overs" fairly regularly and this changes the dynamics of them. I think you need to check before you go and choose.. sometimes they target honymooners.. sometimes they target families..... you need to choose the "right" place for your experience.

It's a very beautiful part of the world!

I have to agree..Daydream island is beautiful. And take a day trip from the island out onto the reef. Its gorgeous,..laying back in a net being dragged behind the boat,..snorkelling...Oh,..it was too long ago, i wanna go back..

I used to live 20mins from whitsundays and all there islands are beautiful. if your on a small budget just go to day dream island, but you can island hop. Check there web site out for prices.

Taniwha
Scawfell because there is fresh water on it and nice beaches.

Definitely Lindeman!!! Clubmed's the only place to stay so its not over populated and and costs approx $600 pp for 3 nights but includes all meals and drinks!!! You can sit in the pool all day and drink or they have special activities like water polo, salsa classes in morning and afternoon, have a massage or similar and they usually have free nightly entertainment...there's also hardly any mobile coverage so you wont have any distractions!!! You can also go for sunset cruises etc but they do cost extra

We have been to a number of islands here and overseas and we keep going back to Hayman we love it. It depends what you are into... if you are a young couple up for a lot of nightlife etc, I probably wouldn't recommend it, but if you are after a bit of style, seclusion, great food and quality couple time try hayman... it is not cheap but you only get what you pay for.

If you go make sure you hire a digny and self charter with a picnic hamper to a couple of the smaller islands... it is magic.

Hamilton is cheaper and a really good resort and base but a different experience again and a bit more action packed...

THe other option is hire a yacht from Sunsail in hamilton... not as expensive as perhaps you would think but not cheap... and try a different island or lagoon everyday... they can teach you to sail and everything.

I would say the single biggest factor in a good holiday in the whitsundays regardless of where you stay is the weather.

Have fun

I think Hamilton Island is really lovely. It is so beautiful and lush. It has the most lovely beaches and a little cute village - lovely restaurants (very romantic!). There is quite a variety of accommodation on the island - I've only stayed in the Hotel and that was simply superb, but there are other types of accommodation. There is heaps to do and stunning beaches and lovely pools. You and your man can also enjoy being pampered in the Spa - man, that was nice! Check out their website for more info and piccies....
