Each city has it's own beauty and charm. I really don't like the bias of some people, if everyone lived in your city then it would be pretty overcrowded and ruin the place.
Perth is a nice middle sized city, much the same weather as the east coast.
Adelaide is a nice smaller/quieter city but it is still very much a city.
Melbourne is a culture filled vibrant city, a rather big and busy one.
Sydney is a fast paced, busy, big city.
Brisbane is another small - medium city with it's own beauty.
and so on.. personally I prefer a regional city.
Without being bias, I heard from a friend on holiday from the UK that they thought Sydney was cleaner then Melbourne. Having been to both, I don't really see what they are talking about, but each to their own.
Some people will prefer the peace of Adelaide, others will prefer the fast paced Sydney or the cultural Melbourne.
All our cities are nice. |

Melbourne is better than Sydney..
People who say Perth only say it because they live there.
People who say Sydney only say it because they don't know about melbourne. |

I rate both Sydney and Melbourne at the top. But because of population density factor and cost of living factor, Sydney is not he preference of others. |

melbourne, it's way better then sydney!
the CBD well laid out, and our streets actually have names, and we don't have stupid one way streets in the middle of the CBD, unlike sydney.
we have lovely gardens spread out through out the city, and we've have a lot of places for tourists to visit. we have lots of markets, history and culture, bars and clubs, fancy places to eat out, places to listen to music, you name it! plus we have lots of shopping, fashion shows, and top brands here
theres alot of jobs, and places to live and stay, and we look after out city, as well as the enviroment with street cleaners etc. the transport is great, with trams running all the time around the CBD, and trains and trams (and buses if you go further out, melbourne was smart, and knew that having buses in the middle of the CBD running all the time would cause havic, unlike sydney) taking people back and forth to the inner and outer suburbs.
our econamy is stable, and we have port phillip bay and the yarra river, where alot of trade goes on, plus we are home to alot of business, and we have alot of offices of internation companys and business in melbourne.
infact, we we're named the world's most livable city a few years back, and even though melbourne gone down the list a bit, melbourne is still ahead of every australian city.
i think we win hands down |

Melbourne. The city is still fun for outsiders (I guess, I wouldn't really know lol), but then the more time you spend there you discover all the hidden bars and secret lanes and it just gets better and better. |

Perth.
Its modern, clean, has beautiful parks. Beautiful beaches, the sunsets are amazing, great weather, everyone is relaxed and friendly. No major traffic hassles. I have been fortunate enough to visit every capital city in Australia, and if I couldn't live on Perth i would live in melbourne. |
