Hello. I use to live in Sydney so I know the place pretty well.

The worst suburbs:

- Redfern
- Bankstown
- Blacktown
- Liverpool
- Parts of Paramatta
- Cabramatta
- Some ares fo Glebe
- Yagoona
- Campletown
- Lakemba (lots of muslim gang troubles)
- Kings Cross (kind of like the red lights district)

Yeah there all the dodgy places I can think of.

Just avoid the South-West surburbs and some of the western suburbs. The South-west of Sydney is notorious for crime and gang troubles (mainly due to middle-eastern gangs).

The Western Suburbs don't have as much crime, but there are lots of state houses out there and it's not really a nice place to live if you know what I mean.

Some inner city suburbs mentioned such as Redfern and Kings Cross are pretty bad too.

So if you avoide those suburbs, you should be right mate.

The good areas of Sydney include the Southern suburbs, the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore.

All of Sydney's North Shore is a great place to live.

The good areas in the Eastern Suburbs include Bondi, Vaucluse and Rushcutters Bay. These are a little on the expensive side though.

In the southern suburbs, Cronulla is a lovely beach side suburb to live in. My Aunty and Uncle have recently settled down in Cronulla from NZ and love it.

The inner western suburbs of Sydney are also really nice. These include Concord, Mortlake and Breakfast Point. All really nice.

Anyway, that's about as much as I could think of.

Thanks for the question, and good luck with the move!

Email me if you have any other questions.

Thanks again :)

There is crime everywhere. Moving to the most expensive places does not guarantee your safety completely. All of the answers are biased or based on stereotypes. I'm offended to be honest because I live in one of the areas mentioned. Seventeen years in Bankstown and nothing has happpened. It's based on how fortunate you are.

I do agree that some suburbs or Sydney are a bit dodgy (and yes, unfortunately is does sometimes "seem" to be areas with a lot of housing commission etc but it really doesn't reflect the whole suburb or the people that live there) My brother and his wife live at South Penrith and really like it. I grew up in the Hills and have also lived in Blacktown, and Parramatta and never had a problem. The North Shore and the North-West Suburbs are nice. I have lived in Lane Cove for a couple of years now (North Shore) but there have still been murders etc in the local area and even a bomb was set off not long ago. Bad stuff happens in EVERY suburb. If you play it a bit safe and don't take stupid risks you can be safe in most areas. It can also depend on your situation and background. A safe, enjoyable environment for a young single or couple may not be a comfortable environment for a family. My partner is Greek and lives in the stereotypical "Greek" suburb of Marrickville. He loves it, but its not my cup of tea. My sister lives in Newtown. I love the vibe...but I wouldn't want to live there myself. Everyone feels safe and comfortable in different areas. If its crime you are worried about have a look at some of the local council websites as they often have statistics on crime in their areas.

Airds, Claymore, Redfern

He's gone fishing.
Redfern, if you want to be beaten and robbed by a group of cowards, Redfern is your suburb. It is full of aboriginals, they are generally good people, however the ones in redfern will rob you and try to beat you up. However they need 10 of them to beat you up. They are too scared by themselves. And NO, I am not a racist, I am just being factual. Even a cat can hunt by itself. Anyone who has been in redfern will agree. I am not sorry, it is a fact,
