I love visiting Melbourne for holidays so here's my suggestions:

- Great Ocean Road
- Penguins at Phillip Island
- Soverign Hill
- Colonial Tramcar restaurant
- The city circle tram
- The free city tour bus
- Queen Victoria Markets
- Bridge Rd Richmond - Discount shopping
- DFO - Discount Factory Outlet on Spencer St
- Melbourne Central
- Chapel St
- Bourke St mall
- Other city shops
- China town, was there for new year was amazing
- Southbank
- Docklands
- St Kilda beach
- Geelong
- Cruise on the Yarra
- Skydeck
- The Zoo
- Old Melbourne Gaol (jail)

There is definitly plenty to do in Melbourne, you won't get enough time.

Melbourne is along side the Yarra river, if you cross this river to St Kilda there are some nice beaches.. But this is ocean not sea.

Well. I got deleted for answering this before cos it's a great city and I was a bit of a wild oats sower indeed in melbourne. So I can't post my true answer other than say there's a lot of fun to be had, lots of live music and after parties. A really good multiculture but not really by the sea, its a grid system city built at the top of a bay. Port Phillip Bay. Melbourne doesn't have any stereotype golden aussie sands or surf, the weather can be four seasons in one day but makes up for it in good diversity otherwise. There is something for everybody in melbourne. Man I had some fun in that joint for sure ! Unforgettable.

Coming from a different angle I would say...

Shop at Chapel Street - stop for lunch at Cafe Cuccina and pick up some clothes from Alannah Hill and the other top Australian Designers. Celebrity Spotting too!!

Spend a day at St Kilda and get some Gelato and go rollerblading at the beach or rent a bike and ride down the BVD. Make sure you stop and have lunch or dinner at Donnovans - famous top rated restaurant on St Kilda Beach.

Head down to the Yarra Valley and to Yarra Glenn and do some wine tasting and have lunch at a winery!! Head to the Mt dandenongs and have lunch at Miss Marples in Sassafras.

Head down to the Monrington Peninsula and see the world famous beaches. Have a walk around mornington and have a long lunch!!

At night!! Head to southbank - it's safe and secure and the music and dancing is awesome!! Have dinner at number 8 at crowne casino and put $5 in the machines to see if you can pay for a lobster dinner!!
