Try Tim Tams. They're a really nice chocolate biscuit. Bite off each end and suck your tea through them. happy times!

We are one of the few countries who eat their national symbols so why not try some kangaroo (available at most supermarkets and many restuarants now) or emu if you can get it.
Also we are a coastal dwelling nation so any seafood is pretty good - note we call shrimp=> prawns here, but calamari, morton bay/balmaine bugs, mudcrab, and a huge variety of fish are available too.
Other local things are the tim tams as someone else mentioned and of course Vegemite (but beware! it is very salty and not at all chocolatey despite what the brown colour might indicate to you).

You should try yabbies, Balmain bugs, and emu. I'm not a big fan of crocodile or kangaroo, but my husband loves it.

Chocolate body paint on one of our great females!

There are a lot of vegetarians in Surfers. You will find multicultural food there too.
Australia has a wide diversity of cultural influences so apart from meat pies and fish and chips our food is no different from any other country.
