Lord Howe island which is part of the state of NSW (for those quibbling over Norfolk) is 600k off the east coast and is therefore the first part of Australia to get the sun first.
Mt Warning is considered the first point on the Australian mainland to get sunrise each of day. |

My answer refers to mainland Australia ONLY!
Cape Byron, N.S.W.
The Cape Byron Lighthouse is Australia's most easterly light being situated on the most easterly point of the mainland.
Edit:
I found this info -
Mt Warning.
"Contrary to popular belief Mt Warning is not the first place to receive sunlight in Australia. Tasmania receives sunlight first in summer."

I am stunned that my fellow Aussies all got this question wrong.
The most eastern point of Australia receives the first morning sun light in winter. It is NOT Cape Byron on the East coast of Australia which is the most eastern part of the mainland, which is only the third most eastern point.153°38' E
The most eastern part of Australia which is Norfolk Island.168° 16' E
Norfolk Island is a self governing Australian Territory situated in the South Pacific approximately 1600 km north-east of Sydney
www.norfolkisland.com.au/
However, in mid summer, Australian Antarctic Territory, the second most eastern point of Australia located at 160°00' E receives the first morning sun.
The first part of Australian soil to receive morning sun alternates between Norfolk Island and Australian Antarctic Territory, depending on the season. |

The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
It rises along the coast of Brisbane through Sydney down Victoria.
It sets along the Western Australia coastline. |
