Depends on where you are landing but the Sydney to Adelaide route is nice or head up the the coast north-bound to see some excellent beaches. Don't miss climbing up the Sydney harbour bridge for wicked views of the Opera house.

Since you only have a week after your week in Sydney I would go someplace that you can see a wide variety of sites that are located in a close range of each other.

I would suggest the Mebourne area. Melbourne is a large city with plenty to see and do. It is also easy to see some amazing nature and beaches without driving to far. I would highly recommend a trip down the Great Ocean Road to see the Twelve Apostles. The scenery is majestic and the towns along the road offer a different side of Australia. If you cannot rent a car tours are available. On the other side of Melbourne is beautiful wine country. There is much more than this to see and do in Australia but the Melbourne area would offer the most bang for your buck for only having a week.

As a note: I would strongly suggest NOT going to the Great Barrier Reef during this time of the year. It is rainy season and there is a great chance it would be raining the whole time you are there. You might never be able to even get to the reef. Go to the reef during another time of the year to get the most out of it.

Travel to the city! Seriously, it's awesome. You can take a taxi or bus, there is so much to see.

Lots of wildlife places around, and plus millions of places to eat out. Take your time and see whats around :)

go to the beaches of sydney, bondi is nice enough but there are far, far nicer ones just a short bus, train or ferry ride away. go bush if you can, the blue mountains is fantastic. cities in australia are nice but they are just cities, you can see one anywhere. who wants to spend two weeks going to starbucks and subway?

in sydney there is plenty to see and do.its difficult without transport.but they have lots of tours,buses and trains are plentiful.visit kings cross,from sydney cental by train.ask anybody for advice we are a friendly nation.for your other destinatin i dont know.i think it would have to be the east coast ,perth is to far away,enjoy yor stay

Enjoy your week in Sydney, then take the Indian Pacific train from Sydney to Adelaide. Spend you r second week there, it is a fabulous city with decent bus and train service. The central district is full service- Rundle Mall for shopping, the entertainment district, the University with its museums, lots of hotels, etc. Then fly home from Adelaide. If you only have two weeks, you might just want to do the Sydney area for two weeks. There is much to see and do there, and you can use the trains and buses to reach the entire area from Gosford to Woolongong reasonably. I have rented cars in Sydney area before- don't... There aren't any parking places there. They are all taken...

Two weeks, in Aust. is a very short time to see much, esp.as your 1st week will be in Sydney,.
Best bet would be to jump on a bus, and head up to The Gold Coast, beautiful beaches, b&bs, some history and great weather, I presume you will fly out of Sydney, so that means you cant go north for more than a few days, as you have to come back.

Go to Cairns... Great Barrier Reef and try snorkelling or see the rainforest. Or you could go to the Red Center and have a sunset dinner overlooking Uluru or take a sunset camel ride... Or you could go to Kangaroo Island... it is secluded and packed with nature... Walk feet from Seals, sea lions, koala, kangaroos, wallabies. Go to Frasier Island, the worlds largest sand island and take a tour along the 60 mile beach road... or a cruise to see the humbback whales. Go to Melbourne and see the old cathedrals, take a winery tour, see the old jail and captain cooks home, tour the massive Queens Market. You have chosen a fabulous vacation. We spent 3 weeks in Australia, and would LOVE to go again!!!!!

drive down through canberra on your way to melbourne, get more bang for your buck. good museum, war memorial, parliament house, etc etc. small and easy to get around too, everything is 20 minutes end to end so you won't waste time trying to figure out how to get to the sights, there's a hop on hop off bus you can spend all day on.
