Re: aussieamerican's answer ...

As a bit of a joke, I once sent a postcard from Japan to someone in a small country town (Bombala, down past Canberra), with the entire address as follows:

2632
AUSTRALIA

The text said "Dear [a not-unusual first name]," ... and it got to the right person!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

But I wouldn't recommend this method. :) People have mentioned Postcode sites; you can also type ...

sydney postcode

... (or whatever location you want) into Google – the correct four-digit Postcode number should come up.

Australia doesn't have a ZIP code, they have postal codes

Sarah
There isn't just one postcode for the entire country.

Each city and suburb has a code, so best to look it up. You can use Australia Post's website and search for the code here:
http://www1.auspost.com.au/postcodes/

Some common city codes are:
Sydney NSW 2000
Canberra ACT 2600
Melbourne Vic 3000
Brisbane Qld 4000
Adelaide SA 5000
Perth WA 6000
Hobart Tas 7000
Darwin NT 0800

Just address your package like this:

<person's name>
Australia

Don't worry, it'll get there.
