New Zealand is 21 hours ahead of USA Pacific Time.

1pm Tuesday (18th) in New Zealand =
4pm Monday (17th) USA Pacific Time.

It depends on what time of year, due to daylight savings adjustments in each country.

During the northern summer (which is the southern winter), i.e., June/July/August/etc, the time would be 6pm on the previous day. At this point, California is on Daylight Savings Time and New Zealand is on Standard Time.

During the northern winter (which is the southern summer), i.e., December/January/February/etc, the time would be 4pm on the previous day. At this point, California is on Standard Time and New Zealand is on Daylight Savings Time.

During the shoulder seasons (autumn/fall and spring), i.e., April or October, there is a slight overlap when one country has adjusted for daylight savings and the other hasn't yet. During those weeks, the time would be 5pm on the previous day.

TIP: Simply Goolge "current time in California" (or whatever destination you choose) to quickly see the current time there.

If it's 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday in New Zealand, then it's 4:00 p.m. on Monday in California - 21 hours behind.
