Well, she will probably want to travel light, so nothing bulky.
My friend has also gone travelling, she is currently in New Zealand and the thing she keeps asking me to post over to her is Galaxy Chocolate - apperently the chocolate over there tastes very different - so maybe a supply of this and other similar items? |

When I went travelling the best pressie I received was a travel journal. Its fab to look back at it now and reminis about my travels! You can get them anywhere from most stationers, or make her one! Mine had pockets to put bits in like tickets or postcards and other bits that I wanted to keep. If shes going there now it will be hot and all the lovely insects that bite will be out-erghh! Another great gift that I received was from Boots, it was a bite syringe that sucked out the contents of a bite (lovely I know, but life and itch saving). A travel towel is a good idea too, they're really small and dry quicker than usual but do the job twice aswell as big bulky beach ones! Hope that helps!! |

What she really needs, she can buy in Australia. The best ever, most heavy-duty insect repellant I have, I bought in Australia.
How about a guidebook on Aussie? There's also a funny Bill Bryson book called "in a sunburned country" she can read on the plane. I 've been to Australia many times, and everything I need, I can find there. So maybe you should stick to general travel items. You can get her a disposable underwater camera for cheap. |

I've heard that there is a special type of sauce that Australians LOVE to put on bread. It's like butter but I forget it's name.
Trust me, everyone there just loves it :-)
Your friend will easily adapt to the food and love it and be like everybody else in Australia!
To find out what it's called check out australia.gov or other websites!
There's also beach items that you can buy her, or tickets for a trip around Australia! |

Don't get food as others have suggested, as you can't take it into Australia.
My favourite travel item was a travel towel - it's really compact and dries fast, so is useful for travelling. I don't know if you can get one for £5 though. Maybe you could get a small torch or something along those lines - I'd go to an outdoor shop and have a look around. Or you could get a photo of you all for her to take in case she gets lonely while she's away. |

get some pictures developed of you and your friends and make a small scrap book out of card. That is exactly what my friends did before i went travelling and I loved it, and took it with me. |

Since it is summer time in Australia and I'm sure some time will be spent at one of the cities great beaches. So get some things for the beach: sun screen, shades, sandals, hat or visor. |

In international Travel Adaptor.......... available from most larger electrical stores, Ideal for charging up the mobile phone or for hair tongs/dryers etc.
Or how about a basin/bath plug. Sounds strange but a flat rubber plug can be used when they don't supply them or someone has pinched it. |

get one of those photo keyrings and have a pic taken of all of you and put it in it...it will give her that extra boost when she is feeling lonely when down-under. or if he has a pay as you go get her loads of top up so she can call home. (or a panic alarm is also a good idea in this day & age).
