Australia is an ISLAND and a CONTINENT. Its sad that even Australians don't know this.

Greenland. And Australia is both the largest island in the world AND the smallest continent at the same time. |

Australia, Just because it hadn't been discovered doesn't mean that it was any smaller than it is now. |

Australia is the biggest island and the smallest continent.
I thought all Aussies knew that.
Before Matthew Flinders circumnavigated Australia and worked out how big it is, everyone may have thought somewhere the size of Britain was the biggest.
I don't think they would have known how big Greenland was back then. |

The written history of Japan begins with brief references in the 1st century AD Twenty-Four Histories, a collection of Chinese historical texts. However, archaeological evidence indicates that people were living on the islands of Japan as early as the upper paleolithic period.Following the last ice-age, around 12,000 BC, the rich ecosystem of the Japanese Archipelago fostered human development. The earliest-known pottery belongs to the JŨmon period. |

That would probably be Greenland. However, Australia is a continent, not an island. |

Australia is not considered an Island even though it could be ... since it's large enough to be it's own continent it is not an Island.
Greenland is the largest island in the world
Great Britain is the 8th Largest Island |
