Whats a good suburb to live in, in Adelaide ?

diamondsky...i need to correct you a little...suburbs north of Adelaide such as Smithfeild, Elizabeth and some parts of Salisbury are considered rough yes but you also have Greenwith,Salisbury Heights and the newer estates at Salisbury East,Wynnvale and also Morson Lakes, which are not...we have some of the hugest houses, in the foothills, with the most beautiful views of the city and by no means are we "rough"...its a pity that some of the surrounding suburbs reputations have given the whole north a bad name. Anyway to answer this question....i feel that Greenwith is a beautiful suburb but not real close to the city...although you can see most of the city from most people lounge room windows up here.

North Adelaide is the best, Walking distance to anything, beautiful suburb, shops, Hotels, Schools, etc etc.

Hi,

It's great that you're thinking of moving to Adelaide -- it's a great place to live. This is a bit of a generalisation, but will give you a fair idea of the suburbs of Adelaide:
* The eastern suburbs are considered to be where the "old money" people live (suburbs like Burnside and Unley).
* The beach suburbs run from north-west to south-west of the city and are usually fairly expensive places to live. Generally, the western suburbs that aren't along the beach are lower-class suburbs, such as Findon and Woodville (I used to live there). Port Adelaide is considered to be quite a rough area.
* North Adelaide is just north of the city and is a fairly expensive place to live, but very nice.
* Quite far north of the city are some rough areas, especially Salisbury and Elizabeth, however parts of these areas have been done up with nice housing developments.
* South of the city also has a few rough areas further out, but is generally okay.

If you're looking to rent a unit, I would recommend these areas, as they are close to the city and/or on good bus routes, reasonably priced (mostly) and quite nice: Fulham Gardens, West Lakes, Henley Beach, Norwood, Parkside, Hazelwood Park, Prospect and North Adelaide.

I would have to say Reynella or Morphett Vale which is south of the city. If you haven't found work yet then I would agree with you with renting a unit nearer to the city but just a word of warning the prices are fairly dear close to the city.
Also when you come to our fair city please call in a say hello to the volunteers in the infomation booth in Rundle Mall. They can assist you with any information you may need.

Norwood, Kensington, Magill, Rose Park, Parkside.
All these are within very close proximity of the CBD so transport is very good and rents are relatively stable around $AUD 180-200 per week for a 3 bedroom house. Units vary depending on number of bedrooms but can be $200-$250 per week.

Depending on what job you are looking for will dictate where you should live perhaps you should have indicated what employment you are suited for.

Glenelg - it is a bit pricey but it is at the beach, has wonderful cafes and a great atmosphere. It has a tram that takes you directly to the cbd and buses are pretty good too.

You may be able to rent a unit in the CBD, which would make sense until you find your feet. Adelaide is easy to get around on foot.
Norward and Unley are good suburbs, close to parklands and the CBD.
