The minimum an employer must pay you is considered an "award wage".
It applies to all of Australia (includes Sydney).
For an Adult (21 years)
Full Time or Part Time
$504.40 per week (504.4 x 52 /12 = $2185.73 Gross (before tax) per month)
$13.27 per hour
Casual (like contract, except you do not sign a contract, but the employer can let you go without much notice.)
$15.93 per hour
In terms of what an average australian earns per month, I went to the abs (Australia Bureau of Statistics) and I found out that that number is....
$1,051.30 per week x 52/12 = $4555.63 (Gross) per month.

Sorry to tell you - but it's a lot! Say $200ish a week rent plus food etc.

those are all good answers, (except #1 but i think they meant $600 a WEEK not a month!)
**People in Austalia tend to refer to it as a "per week" ammount, not a "per month" ammount. We pay for rent by the week, not by the month in Australia too.**
BUT it depends who you are. If you are unemployed you get about $850 a month. (a bit over $200 a week)
If you work in an entry level full-time job you should be getting paid around $600 a week (might be a bit less or a bit more if you are lucky)
that average ammount of $1050 a week would not nessisarily represent what you could expect to be paid if you moved to Australia and tried to get a job here.

i think its around $600 dollars why you asking?
