What ever you do don't go with Optus. They are the worst!

Iceman
Telstra has the best coverage area in Australia. There is not much point having cheap calls if you are in a bad reception area.

Vodafone, you can get their SIM card online even before you travel, try link below:

Virgin have a great prepaid if you buy the credit online... 10c text and 10c a minute calls. As for reception, it piggybacks off Optus... so its pretty good when it comes to normal suburban or city areas... Won't work in the bush.

Telstra has the best reception, however it is the most expensive. If you're mostly in and around the city I would suggest Vodafone, they offer prepaid caps which are brilliant value.

Savvytel they use the Vodophone network see them at savvytel.com.au they are the cheapest by far for prepaid and the credit does not expire, That is spelt S A V V Y T E L not a W as it looks like a W but is actually two V's Together.
