Whats the best place to visit in Australia?

Batako
G'day

If you come to Melbourne, this is what you'll get:
1. Melbourne is a city of diversity. If you are a newcomer, and you do not look 'Anglo-Saxon', you do not feel like an 'alien', since you can find almost every race in the world walking in the city. They are both immigrants and overseas students.
2. THE FOOD!! Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Thai, All-you-can-eat, African, Lebanese, Mexican, Sea Food... anything else? All available and lots of them in a very-very-very affordable price
3. Pretty good public transport system. With one ticket, you can switch from train, tram and bus. They do not always come on-time, but still reliable and improving (www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au).
4. SHOPPING!!! Original branded clothing sold very cheap. There are even shopping tour, where the participants are taken to retails outlets just for shopping. Big temptations for ladies.
5. Night Life... hmmmm... I'll say the centre of nite activities will be Crown Casino and Docklands. Altho there are still plenty of cafe's and clubs scattered around the suburbs as well.
9. Tourist attraction. This is the area that I think Sydney is better than Melbourne, since it has most of it's attraction within its suburbs. Most Melbourne attraction are pretty much out of Melbourne, such as the gold mines in the cities of Bendigo and Ballarat, The Great Ocean Road, Lakes Entrance, Grampians, skiing in Mt. Buller etc.

Running out of ideas, but I hope that I can at least give you some more informations that have been provided by the answerers before me.

Good luck and welcome to Australia :)

Sydney, for the harbour, or Ayres Rock ( Uluru) just because its there

There is no one "best place" to visit, there are so many. Is there a "best place" in Europe or the USA? I have been all over Australia and there is something to recommend anywhere you mention. Where to go depends on your interests and your budget. I would start with a few days in Sydney then go to Uluru and Alice Springs or the Barrier Reef or Hobart and Tasmania. (I have now insulted everywhere I haven't mentioned).

I've lived here for 45 years in every State and Territory and am still finding strange and wonderful places I haven't seen before.

You chooze!

Sydney: Very cosmolpolitan, fab food, great climate, fantastic skyline, the Opera House and Bridge. Great museums and art. It's possible to walk from Split Bridge to Manly and have a beach picnic on the way - all within reach of the city centre.

Tasmania: Wallabies everywhere, lovely national parks, duck-billed platypus, deserted white sand beaches, penguins.... idyllic.

PS Kakadu also very good, but don't look for it in WA as it's in Northern Territory!

Mark k
whitsunday islands and whitehaven beach, there's a view point over looking the estuary and white haven beach it is superb.

Kakado national park in W.A.

Go via thailand ... pick up travel sick pills IN THAILAND and learn to scuba dive in pre for aus and go here

www.tigertemple.co.uk

look up the temple of the tigers on the net

December -

March in the North Outback its rainey season... humid, raining, no roads, sticky, more jellyfish, more crocs etc

That inc Ayres rock

To go from Cairns to Darwin, kakadu (crocs dundee turf and more aborigonie where they are in control not in slums) then down to Ayres rock etc....

Leave a good month

Ideally to go up the east coast a few months...

But min you want to try is...

(note I did not ge to do the south or west)

Sydeny... (Not Much)... Bondi beach is not much to write home.

Maybe climb the bridge if got the cash, go to the zoo and go in the Kangaroo enclosure.See the cocatoos in the botanical gardens... (if in whale season go on a wahle watch trip)

Note dont walk through bushes or run hand over ground or in bushes due to nasty spiders.

def try this...

for an outback adventure to see real auusies ... ie this guys mates and you pass by Blue Mountains

Then in Byron Bay where uyou stop surf lessons, dive trips, Sunday day trip to the leaglaised dope town of Nimbin and flower children proper hippy area of Channon.

http://www.nimbinweb.com.au/

try black dog surf (yes the dog comes and surfs too)

Then Gold coast. Surfers Paradise...

DO NOT GO IN THE CANALS... FULL OF BULL SHARKS (IE MANEATERS) BUT BEACHES NETTED OFF)

Go to Draculas resturant and horror show... cool.

The infinity

http://www.infinitygc.com.au/contact.htm...

This is some serously wacky ****... 9good spot for those mimbin grown up herbal cookies)

do the shark swim in the Seaworld centre... lots of touristy stuff

Then Brisbane... (just to go to Morton Island and hand feed a wild dophin
http://www.tangalooma.com/dolphins/dolph...

The Noosa...(spto to go to steve Irwins Zoon and you can pre book to take a tiger walkies.

BUT FART BETTER ON A THAILAND STOPOVER AT THE TEMPLE OF THE TIGHERS (LOOK UP ON NET LOADS OF STUFF)

IE
WWW.tigertemple.co.uk

Note dont walk short cuts in Noosa...

Areas marked off by red triangles = unexploded ww2 shells, bombs and mines... (not a joke)

then Harvey bay (whale watch ) but more so go to fraser island

http://www.fraserisland.net/
http://www.seefraserisland.com/...

better spot to go see dingos and whales

STAY
OUT
OF
THE SEA

STACKS OF TIGER SHARKS... WE SAW THEM

then if you can stop by Rockhampton and the Dingo Cattle station...

THE BEST CHOPPER FLIGHT EVER... full speed low level ie 20 feet if that between trees ... 9bring video camera.

* * * * *

Then Airlie beach and whitsunday islands

try for the Avatar or $400 ish (much less **** booze cruise much above old farts) Maxi 80 foot racing yacht...

the avatar is the one that looks like something out of star trek...

For Whitsundays island and amzing beach and snorkling the barrier reef.

Also note the avatar being a trimarian and more stable best for not getting sick.

http://avatarwhitsundayssailing.homestea...
http://www.seedownunder.com.au/destinati...

Note make sure 2 days 3 nights = start in morning end in evening not other way around... thats two days and a con...

also look for a tick ...

Maxi yachts are 80 foot as a guideline

Note... Magnums bar does competitions of the wet t shirt variety where you can wein a yacht trip... and bf can enter the mixed pole dance one

(note bring a notebad for how to use the loo or you will break it and not be popular with who has to fix it) SERIOUSLY

then cairns for diving... look for cod hole or coral sea trips (best learn to scuba dive in Thailand in Koh Toh) and going up to the table lands and cape tribulation (hire a car) (note only swim where you are told to as lots of croc which you cant see a meter away from a 16 foot monster.

then head inland for ayrs rock and kakadu

Oh and in Melborne in the south see the pengin parade in Philip Island where all the pairs of penguins come in to their homes... this is cool as christmas even though does not sound like ti

By the look of your avatar and username you like a bit of the old chilly weather. So the Snowy Mountains ski resorts in July -August, maybe Canberra & Tasmania at the same time (low season = less expensive for Tassie) Take a look at the Great Ocean Road and enjoy the roading 40s winds which go in circles around Antarctica. Further south, the frenzied fifties, screaming sixties and the shrieking seventies.

RAGGYPANTS
Brisbane market, Hamilton Island - coral sea excursion snorkelling.

Adelaide, capital of South Australia. Quite different from everywhere else in Australia and much more open and frinedly. The locals say it's because there were never any convicts sent there.
