Actually, the name is a reflection of the high fertility of the land in that area, but boobies are still pretty funny.
Canberra was settled as the capital because there was so much rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne at Federation that they decided not to have the capital in either state, hence the Australian Capital Territory was created. |

We have only ever had one capital city and that is Canberra.
Melbourne was never the capital city of Australia.
The Parliament of Australia first met on 9 May 1901 at the Exhibition Building in Melbourne, for the formal opening of Parliament at noon.
The members of the Victorian Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly were accommodated at the Exhibition Buildings from 1901 to 1927. |

It used to be Melbourne, but is now Canberra. Canberra replaced Melbourne as the capital of Australia in May 1927.
Melbourne is capital of the state of Victoria. Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympics and is capital of New South Wales. |
