There is a minor DNA divergence noted in the scientific papers, however there are no longer any Tasmanian "full blood" aborigines anymore. Plenty of mixed decent part aboriginals, and I suppose that is the main difference between the mainland and Tasmania. |

There are people living in Tasmania today who have links to the aboriginal people of pre-colonisation days. It is not true to say that they have died out. |

Tasmania was separated from the mainland of Australia for 10,000 years. I don't know whether that would be long enough to see any difference between the two populations.
I have seen suggestions that the Tasmaian lot were on the decline anyway perhaps due to size of the gene pool?
If they weren't in a bad way before the white man got there they certainly were after, the last full blood Tasmaian Aboriginal died in 1876. |
