January 1 - same as just about every country on earth

Me
New Years, Day, of course. January 1st. We use the same calendar as everyone else. It comes about 16 hours before it gets to the USA, since Australia is on the other side of the International Date Line.

Australia generally celebrates New Year on 1 January. However, there are also celebrations for Chinese New Year and the new years of other cultures. These celebrations are generally limited to people of the particular cultural background.

Mr G
That's either very funny or very sad.

Most Australians celebrate it on the eve of January 1st each year. Of course a New Year will differ if you're Jewish, Chinese etc.

It is rather fun being at a party in Sydney with people there afrom all over Australia and New Zealand. On Sydney time, the first celebrations occur at 11pm when it is midnight in New Zealand. At midnight Sydney time, all the Tasmanians, Victorians, ACT and NSW people have a drink with the South Australians having a cheer at 12.30. Not to be outdone, the Queenslanders make their presence felt at 1am with the Northern Territory at 1.30 and Western Australia the last to let their hair down at 2am. By then you really know you've seen the New Year in.

Hi, seven days after Christmas or the first
day in the new year or on the 1st of January or 365 days after the previous year but only once per year.
We call it New years Day.(because it is the first day of the new year)
Australia is the only country in the world who celebrates New Year.
I hope this helps. Waltz.
L.F.E I thought the question was "
When do AUSTRALIAN's celebrate New Year.

They do the countdown on the night before and it carries on till Jan 1st ,the next day.

♥ Mysterious ♥
The same as anywhere else in the world !!

First Day of the Year - 1st January

Driver T
You've got us all wondering about this one, Wayne.

What we're wondering is are you on the level, or are you Australian (or something)?
It's like asking which day of the week is Thursday, or how many Australian men does it take to change a light bulb?
Or, is there part of the Question you haven't included and expect everyone to guess at what it is you mean?
Like perhaps-- When is Australia's New Year celebrated if it rains hard on January 1st and the planned celebrations are washed out? In which case the answer is - the next fine day.

PS. Australian men don't change light bulbs, that's a job for the sheilas.
