I've been in the U.K for three years and I've found the cheapest way to contact OZ is to use phone cards (which you buy from newsagents) then you know how much you have spent, how many minutes you can talk and no nasty surprised on the phone bill. If you buy a five pound card it lasts for ages!

Other than the suggested Skype...in Perth they have a call deal (not sure which network) where it costs $1 an hour or something outrageous, get your mates to look into it and get them to call you! Thats what my friends do!

I'd have to say skype is definately the best as it's free but you can also try cheapest calls. There are two numbers ths one is for landlines and it costs 2p per minute anytime of the day 0844 462 25 25. This one is to call mobiles in aus and it costs 10p per min any time of the day 0871 999 38 38.
