for your learners yes, computerised and here in tassie you pay $21.50 only if you pass, this is then valid for 3 years though you can go for your P's at 16 yrs and 11 months, cost is $50 no matter what the result and then whatever you elect to have on your licence-its valididity length ranging from 12 months to 5 years and anywhere from $21 for this.
if you come here with your euro licence you can drive upto 3 months with that before you HAVE to get a tasmanian licence and I beleive you need to do a pracical exam to do this again at a cost of $50 pass or fail.

You need to do a theory test to get your learners permit, then you have to do a driving test to get your provisional liscence 1 (NSW) than another computer test to get your provisional liscence 2 (NSW) than another test, which I think is a driving one (I'm not up to it yet) to get your full liscence. |

If you've already had your license for three years in the UK, you don't have to take any test, they just transfer it over. If not, then yes you need take a test. There are three stages you have to go through before you get your full license. |
