Most Airlines usually won't give you a choice when you arrive for example most flight that are long like that might take place at night so that you land early in the morning.

I would travel between May and September, they are quiet times in Australia and it's over winter here so you might get things a little cheaper.

Come in September/October or March/April. The weather is good throughout Australia in those months and they're out of the peak seasons. If you can get a flight that arrives after about 6.00pm, go for it as helps you to get over jet lag faster if you sleep at the same time as everyone else is sleeping.
