The Great Barrier Reef.

Then dingos and Australian Cattle Dogs in the desert.

Then the Sydney Opera House and city skyline.

Then the Fosters' beer commercials...

Here's a question within a question. How many of you who have answered have actaully been to Australia?? Just thought I'd ask, as your answers made me giggle. A few crappy things people dont relaise. THE FLIES !!!! THE MOSSIES !!! and the cost of reparing your car when the kangaroo jumps out in front of you. I'm an Aussie and I love the country !!!!

Born a Fox
Home, vegemite and koala bears but sadly we we don't have Outback Steak House, IHOP or Red Lobster so I have to find a quicker, cheaper way of getting to the US to eat.

Barriera corallina, Finding Nemo, canguri, desert, easy life (don't know why but i think in australia people live better work less than where i am - italy - and has a better way to take life).
Bye!

Aunty Jules
The first thing that comes in to my mind when I think of Australia is that I very lucky to live in a wonderful country and I'm proud to be an Australian.
When I read the answers to this question I was bemused by some of the answers and outraged by one of them. The answer from Solange B outraged me and I'm not an easy person to get upset but when it comes to defending my country then I will.
Australia is and always will be home to me and to my future partner and children.

TonyB, perhaps you should get out of the city more often...you would see a lot more kangaroos and realise that people in the country love Steve Irwin and even say crikey. After all in the country we are surrounded by wildlife, perhaps we appreciated him more. Anyway back to the question, I live in Aussie so I have to say.. sun, beaches, bbq's, ah too many to list you will just have to come visit and see for yourself.

a very very big island surrounded by the ocean, scenic..WITH...Qantas airlines, great barrier reef, northern territories with summer all year round,,,chocolates, sydney opera hse, blue mountain, famous outback, wine and vineyards,
delicious seafood, beautiful dried flowers, surfer's paradise, horse racing, under the commonwealth, popular place for immigrants, also vet schools, diverse animal population ....country that has summer in dec/jan and winter in june/july...... island so big that travelling from one end to the other takes more money than for some to travel fr their city to bali or singapore.......

"First thing"? Oh my ... they all come at once for me:

- Beaches, with sun-bleached-blonde young people
- Neighbours (TV show)
- Bright sun
- Vast expanses of nothingness with no shade
- Totally undesireable men everywhere
- Terrible accents
- Kangaroos
- Very 'straightforward' people, with tougher than usual women
- Burnt red necks
- Great Barrier Reef

Interesting comments. Let me fix up a few misconceptions.

1. We don't have the Outback steak house restaurants here (although I wish we did)
2. We don't drink Foster's much - the most popular beer is called VB
3. Kangaroos are not in the city areas so we seldom see one
4. No one says Crikey!
5. Finding Nemo was a cartoon
6. Very few people get killed or injured by dangerous animals each year
7. Not everyone loves Steve Irwin (he was really a USA TV personality); a lot of people thought he was an embarassment to this country

You people should get out more or at least read some books instead of watching TV.
