Brisbane - you'll love the warmer weather and casual lifestyle.
And we need more nurses! |

Brissy! I lived there for 6 months while I was studying abroad in Australia (from the US) it is such a beautiful city!! The weather is perfect, and the city itself has this great laid back atmosphere. It is much more laid back than Sydney (which reminded me alot of US cities). Plus it is small so even though you have the benefits of being in a city (lots to do, great food, etc) it has a homey feel to it. |

I am Australian and grew up in Brisbane and not really sure I would recommend it - but that is probably just my hang ups!
Brisbane would be the cheapest place to live as far as rent etc is concerned, and whilst it has nice weather, it is still an hour's drive to the beach. I hear it is a "growing" city now - more young people moving there etc - when I was growing up it had a boring reputation and I think it is trying to put that to rest.
Sydney is the most exciting city for a foreigner and i am sure you would find a big expat British community there and it has beaches in the city which might give you a more "Australian" experience. But biggest reason people dont live there is it is really expensive and can be a bit crowded. You take away the harbour and it is just one big traffic jam. But again, weather is really nice, not too cold in winter. And lots to do on the weekends there too.
Melbourne I love but it has the worst weather - def gets cold and rainy, but has a sophisticated vibe, great nightlife. The beaches are a bit crap, but it is by far my fave city and is like the cooler more refined version of Sydney. But if you want the true Australian experience of sunshine and beaches you would be better off in Bris or Syd |

Brisbane is the smallest of the capital cities you mentioned and fairly laid back but the money is in Syd or Mel.A shortage of nurses is here in oz and i have met a few nurses from uk who love it here. Most say the traffic was much faster here than back home but love the lifestyle and c |

Out of those three, I would pick Brisbane, for the sun and the laid back lifestyle, and you will still be able to travel the east coast of Australia.
However, have you considered Perth as an option? I am originally from there, and although there isn't much in the way of tourist attractions, the lifestyle is phenomenal! Best beaches in the country! Friendly people! We are also experiencing a great employment boom at the moment, and a nurse shortage, so you would be in high demand!
Anyway, just something to think about.!
Good luck! |
