Where's the best place to shop in Melbourne?

A bunch of girlfriends and I are planning to go up there for the day from our small country town.

Where are the best places to go for bargins, to eat, and any other fun attractions?

Must be accessible by public transport!

Thanks guys

The best massive shopping 'mall' is Chadstone. The best shopping in central Melbourne is to be found up and down all the little lanes and arcades. Definately check out Ackland St.- St. Kilda, Brunswick St - Fitzroy, Bridge Rd. - Richmond, Lygon St. - Carlton. Smith St. - Collingwood has become known as the latest place for factory outlets. If you have loads of money check out High St. Armadale.

yeh mebourne central, bourke street mall, and generally most of swanston st.
chapel st, in south yarra accesible by train and tram, and bridge rd in richmond also accessible by tram - there both good for shopping.

hope it helps

I like Melbourne Central because there is a lot there and it is also walking distance from other popular places like federation square and the yarra river.
Chadstone is quite big but I am not sure if there is any public transport there.

If you're over 20 go to chadstone because they took down all the shops for young adults and teenagers and if you're under 20 go to Southland because they have great shops for fashionable young adults.

Don't go to bridge rd because the only thing they mean by "huge sales" is from 500 dollars to 400 (i went there the other day).

Melbourne central is good too and try chapel st.
They're all public transport accessible.

I'd have to say Chadstone. There's regular bus services to Chaddy; so getting there's not a problem. It has every conceivable store you could possibly want. But best of all, it's totally undercover. So it won't matter two hoots what Melbourne's weather throws at you.
