Where are the cheaper but still nice areas to live in Australia.? |
I was thinking brisbane (not city) but the suburbs but many say it is expensive and perhaps to aim for a smaller town. I love smaller towns anyway so any particular ideas?
It doesn;t have to be brisbane. Would consider anywhere that has decent schools and a hospital within a 45 minute drive.
Would consider any state. But would have to have a main hospital and a few care homes around as am a nurse.
Any advice greatly appreciated |

great small town feeling is redland shire - east of brisbane - on the coast.
Hospitals in Cleveland - 1 private, 1 public
many nursing homes
train to city centre of brisbane
45 minutes to gold coast
on moreton bay
very good private schools in area - Ormiston, Thornlands, Wellington Point ++ |

Tamworth is a fabulous city.
Inland NSW; it has everything a young family needs.
The Tamworth Base Hospital is large (has an awesome reputation) and serves many surrounding towns.
There are several fine Nursing Homes too, "Nazareth House" is modern and second to none.
One of Australia's larger inland cities, it has all the facilities of many of the popular coastal cities.
Though quite a large city now (roughly 36,000 in population) it retains the warmth and style of a country town.
If you really prefer a smaller town, there are quite a few within an hours run into Tamworth.
The only drawbacks are the water shortage (but this is true on many cities right across this country - South East Qld and Brisbane are particularly bad at the moment) and the more expensive price of petrol.
The inland towns all reflect the cost of transportation in the price of fuel.
Other consumer items and services are on a par with the rest of the country.
The Schools are of a high standard, there are Private Colleges there too.
An hour away, at Armidale is the University of New England.
(Armidale is another fabulous inland city)
And if you're a country and western music or boot-scooting fan then Tamworth is the city to be!
And come Christmas you have never seen a prettier sight than Peel Street at night.
This is the link to the city's webpage:

G'day,
In Melbourne, we live in Point Cook, west of Melbourne. It is about 20min from the city via Westgate Freeway with plenty of new estates being opened, affordable price, close to the beach and infrastructure that aimed for young families and therefore lots and lots of newly opened GP clinics opened like mushrooms ;) Just try and have a look yourself if you are interested to find out.
I am enclosing 2 websites that lists available property around Melbourne. The 3rd website is one of the main real estate in Point Cook area, if you are interested to see around the area.
I am also enclosing some job websites as well if you need it. They are as follows:
www.seek.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au
www.careerone.com.au
There is a hospital nearby my area named Werribee Mercy Hospital. However there are also other jobs that you can work with your expertise besides hospital, such as Nurse On-Call service, which is Victorian Government initiative to provide 24hrs information health information helpline. For more info on health career, go to www.vic.gov.au.
Good luck and welcome to Australia. I've been living in Melbourne for 16 years, visited some other capital cities in Australia and still giving Melbourne 10/10 for the best city. |

i havent been to too many places in australia, but of the places I have been i'd definately live in the sunshine coast. theres lots of nice spots up the coast from Brisbane, - not all are cheap of course. Noosas really nice, quite touristy now, but still very nice.excellent beach, some good surf if you're into longboarding, a great national park. you could live on the outskirts of Noosa to reduce living costs though. There are lots of new retirement homes popping up all over the place around the sunshine coast, so maybe you'd like to work as a nurse in one of the retirement villages if you have the necessary qualifications to do so.
have a nice time in Australia. |

If you want 45 mins from Brissie, then saying that you would consider 'any State' really only says that you want to live in Qld, .......at a push The Tweed, Nsw.
However, Browns Plains, Loganlea, Logan-holme Upper Coomera, Coomera. They're pretty cheap.
If you're buying, I would suggest Beenleigh, as its the next boomtown. |

Come and visit anywhere on the Sunshine Coast about 45min to 1.5 hrs north of Brizzy, we have great beaches, < 30min drive to the mountians overlooking the coast, great schoooling, good sporting heritage, people say hello as you pass and the shopkeepers know your name. The shopping is competitive and easily accessable, and no concrete jungles, yet. Cheap living is all relative, UPL is 1.19 today, rent is avg.$250PW 3BH & buy new 300k+ depending on PPP, little gems are available still. Family of 4s grocery is about $200 pf. without skimping.
Ive travelled the coastline and found this to be the closest thing to my childhood growing up in Sydneys ES. Dawife is at A&E at Nambour, its the region's biggest at the moment as a new super hospis is planned for the future. Lots of nursie friends are casuals, and lots of private care patrons as well. |
