Where are the most exclusive areas to live in Cairns / Brisbane Australia? |
We are thinking about moving to Cairns or Brisbane in Australia. We have a large budget to purchase a property but we are unsure which are the exclusive and desirable areas to live. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information. Many Thanks |

Cairns - most expensive - Trinity Beach, Palm Cove, Clifton Beach and Brismead.
Never lived in Brisbane so can not advise on those areas. |

Search realestate.com.au and the higher priced houses may help give an estimate of exclusive suburbs.
Ourbrisbane.com.au may help a bit to.
Can't help with Cairns sorry.
Cairns and Brisbane are so totally different (have friends in Cairns) Cairns is way more layed back and not as much to do as Brisbane but still nice tho visually etc. |

We stayed at Palm Cove while we were in Cairns and it is very desirable and beautiful too. |

i cant have been gone from Cairns for that long that Brinsmead is an exclusive area...some houses are nice but i have a few friends that live there and their houses are not very nice, or big for that matter...
i would say that City View, Kanimbla (especially the houses up Coppalode Dam Road) are much more exclusive...also, the houses on the Whitfield Range and at the top in Edge Hill (upper part of Jensen Street and beyond)...
if you want to live in an up-market apartment then i know that the city has some very exclusive and new building along the Esplanade...
if you want more information email me...i grew up in Cairns, lived there from 1980-2006...and have seen Cairns go from nothing but sugar cane country to a beautiful city... |

In Brisbane you have several areas Paddington is up market but the homes there are mostly old Queenslanders. Very expensive and some are very nice. If you want flash up market come South a bit from Brisbane and Look at Sovereign Island Hope Island Sanctuary Cove. Ephrain Island |

Brisbane is a large city with lots of different areas with very different style. So while there are plenty of desirable areas, the choice depends rather on what you are looking for in terms of lifestyle and access to facilities.
For example, if you are looking for an "old money" neighbourhood with gracious old homes not too far from the CBD, try Hamilton. If you are looking for large modern homes with acreage and bushland and rolling hills, try Pullenvale or Brookfield. Both are highly desirable areas but completely different in lifestyle. But if you are into yachting, then head over down to Manly instead.
Given that you aren't short of cash, why not fly to both cities, stay in a hotel and rent a car and drive around for a few days to get a feel for the different areas.
As to the choice of Brisbane over Cairns, again it's a lifestyle choice. Cairns is hot all year around; Brisbane still has summer and winter (albeit a mild one). Obviously Brisbane being larger has a lot more facilities (sports stadiums, theatres, museums, art galleries) so you like Test cricket, concerts etc, it probably has to be Brisbane. But if entertaining at home is your thing, then clearly both cities are fine.
As a Brisbane resident, I have to say that Brisbane has a superb library system (fully integrated across a network of branches throughout the city, all WWW-accessible, email notifications, and just about any book you might want is available and will be delivered from wherever it is to your local library for collection for a mere 55c -- no charge to borrow straight off the shelf). If you like to read, this is the city to do it in! |
