Where are you all going on the Sydney trains?

I know some of us are going to work or school but seriously where are all these old and unemployed people going? I travel for over 2 hours to work where I have to stand up for 8 hours only to stand up all the way back home because old people hog the seats with their bags.

well if u think about it, theres alot of services and other places to visit in sydney. those people obviously need to get there somehow.
they have a right to catch it as much as u, im sure they dont mind u catching it.

Leave the oldies alone, you will be one yourself one day.

I don't know why Dan can say that the unemployed are bludgers. Well, I know some are, but I am just recently unemployed, and have been told I have to prove that I have searched for work for 100 hours over a 3 week period. That is "full-time" No time to bludge around for me. Maybe the old people have appointments to attend. I don't see why they can't travel when they want to, haven't they earned the right.

St Marys > Granville > Fairfield in mornings just before 7am to school..
And vice versa for return trip..

Oh, and yes i stand for older passengers..

I think older people are often going to medical specialist appointments in the city, I don't think they are there to annoy you. They would prefer the specialists to move to the suburbs - I can't understand why they don't.

The amount of people travelling on the train is not the problem, the lack of trains are the problem, what I mean we need more trains and more often. Iemma, has cut back on the services provided just as fuel prices increase.

Well, first, you are young and they are old. Secondly, they are tourists who bring in MONEY to your community. They are there because they have heard that Aussies are great/fun/kind people! Maybe in your long boring, tiring commute you could converse with them and learn how much they love your country....we sure do! BTW: they are going to the Blue Mts., Melbourne, the wine country, etc. Also, they probably don't realize you stand for 8 hours at your job. Lighten up...you'll be there some day. (:>))

No one should hog the seats with their bags. Seats are for people not bags. Old people usually try to avoid peak hour travel, it is too difficult and often very painful if you have problems with your feet. If old people are on the trains at that time, you can bet they are having to go to a hospital or medical specialist. And as for the rest, well, we don't actually know if they are unemployed do we? They could simply be shiftworkers travelling at different times of day. Maybe they too have medical appointments, have to visit relatives who are sick etc etc. Maybe they are actually attending job interviews? Who knows. No one travels on peak hour trains if they don't have to.

Dan
Some of them are bludgers - ones who are unemployed and don't bother getting a job or at least trying to. They have no life - just walking around everyday doing nothing when all their friends are at work. If that's what they call life, they should reconsider because the people who work pay tax from their salaries for them. Unless they're unwell, they should get their act together and at least get a TAFE qualification. It is never too late to change if you are determined. There are many people who came from overseas with little or no English but still managed to own successful small businesses and stores because they made the effort to take risks in life. I won't blame those who just got the sack though.

For the old people, who cares? They deserve a break after all the work they done on this world so I don't see how it is a problem for them to hang around with their friends when everyone's at work.

I give up my seat for the elderley and other members of the public too when I see the need to.
