well take it from me i travel back home at least twice a year to australia & the experince i have learned is stay away from the bank at the airport there exchange rates are totally different from away at the airport if you look at the back of your debit/credit card you will either see cirruis or star network on it that means your card will work in any ATM in the world them your bank back home will adjust for the amount in usa dollars if you from the usa or your home country
and have a great trip !!

Many travel agencies will make the exchange for you but you have to wait for your Australian currency to come back. Many banks will do it too. Probably right around an international airport would be your best bet. If you could get inside the international area of the airport where people would go when they are boarding a flight to Australia I'm sure they would have plenty of Australian currency on hand to sell to people on their way to Australia. The best exchange rate would be in a local bank in Australia. If it were me heading to Australia I would buy a small amount of Australian currence by ordering it ahead probably through the bank and then I would buy more once I was settled into my hotel room in Australia and could find a local bank. Hope that helps!

Go to a large bank like Chase or Bank of America. They usually have at least one branch which sells currency or they allow you to order it and pick it up at a branch. otherwise, try an American Express Travel Office.

Just use an ATM at the airport, it will give you the best conversion rates and will minimise fees. Also, if you can find an bank ATM- one with a banks name on it, it will be cheaper than those private ones.

Yes just use your ATM/ Check card, but check with your bank first to make sure that their fraud department knows where you are going. If you dont do this, your fraud department will see international charges on your account and may possibly stop further withdrawls. This happened to me in a recent trip to Aussie. As far as changing the US currency that you have on your person, any shopping center will have numerous places to do that as the Australian economy depends on you spending your American money there.

Don't go to the banks or the airport exchangers.

Just take your checkcard or ATM card and withdraw money there so you won't get charged a bunch for exchanging.

I did that all the time and I only had to pay a buck or two in fees.

Yar genius eh?

Ike-2807
At the airport they have a money exchange booths, also at any bank. Major cities also have money exchange offices.

kimberleibenton

Look for a big bank, maybe in a downtown area. Just call around you should find a bank in your area that does exchanges.
