Where can I go for a holiday and a round of golf in Tasmania? |
I have always wanted to visit Tassie and I love to play golf, so I would be keen to play a few golf courses in Tassie as well as enjoying a great holiday seeing the sights, where should I go? |

Yep, would definately recommend Barnbougle. If you're staying in the Sorell area, Hobart golf course and Pittwater golf course, and the Airport golf course too. On the way to Port Arthur the Dunally golf course is pretty good. Hope you enjoy your stay!
As for sights, the Southern half of Tasmania is unmissable, from Sorell I would recommend the Sorell Fruit Farm (where I work, naughty shameless advertising), where you can pick fresh fruit, sample gormet Tasmanian produce, and have lunch at our delightful cafe, unfortunately we close in the winter season, so we're only open until 18th May, re-opening end of September. We also have a huge range of tourism brochures and information, and are happy to answer your questions about anything in the state. It's a top local tip :)
After that I'd head down the Peninsula to Tesselated Pavements, Devil's Kitchen blowhole, Tarranna Wildlife Park, and down to Port Arthur, the historic prison, I would recommend staying at least overnight in the reigon, Fox & Hounds acommodation is good, and take the Ghost Tour (included in your admission fee to the historic site).
Be sure to check out the Tasman Arch geological feature, the boat tours down there are unmissable.
A little known spot in the reigon is the Coal Mines historic site in Lime bay, it's a free bushwalk around old ruined convict remains, solitary confinement cells etc. Its a beautiful walk. There are many stunning bushwalks in the Port Arthur/Frecinet area. And also many golf courses! Cheers |

The first place that comes to mind is Barnbougle Dunes in Bridport - northeast Tasmania. It is a traditional links course right by the ocean and has been rated one of the top 35 in the world.
There are some other interesting courses aswell, I believe at Bothwell, in the midlands, you play amongst the sheep at the oldest golf course in the southern hemisphere! The is also a golfing museum close by.

Yes I hear a lot of great stuff about Bridport for golf too. Other courses that I know of are the Country Club in Launceston, Mowbray, Riverside and Launceston Golf Clubs. Naturally there must be some good ones in the Hobart area but I am not in the know there, sorry. |

I definatley agree with the above comment.
Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course in Bridport roughly an hour and a halfs drive north east of launceston ( northern tasmania).
it is Australia's #1 Public Golf Course, and one of the best in the world.
Accommodation is on site at the golf course, with a 2 bed cottage for roughly 180.00 for the night.

I suggest if your flying, fly into Launceston - however, if your planning on being in tasmania for a bit , go to hobart and see what the beautiful place has too offer.
Tasmania as a state is naturally beautiful, and you can drive from the top to the bottom in about 5-6 hours.
The east coast of tasmania - has places like wineglass bay ( absolutley amazing!)
and western tasmania has attractions from strahan - like the ABT railway, however if your not a huge fan of the wilderness i wouldnt overly recommend it.
Either way, tasmania is a beautiful place...
it can get pretty cold so dont forget to bring a jumper and your camera! |

Golf courses are like pubs in Tassie, they are everywhere. Every town has at least one, and if you are thinking about coming in winter ther is a great fun course in a town called Waratah on the west coast that is a lot of fun in the snow. Best thing to do is ask the locals as most of them will have a favorite courses, but dont limit yourself the whole island is filled with beauty and beautiful golf course, Enjoy |
