Where do Austrlians tend to go for holidays?

I am just curious as you have such a gorgeous country that I probably would not feel the need to go far. I met quite a few Australians when we stopped off at Fiji on our Australia trip. Is fiji and the South pacific quite a common place for Australians to go?

When I was younger and more cashed up I went to India and Nepal.. several times. Cuba, the UK, the Middle East, Turkey, Malaysia... basically places that were completely different to here. Friends regularly go to Indonesia and Thailand.

Now that I'm older and not so cashed up we regularly go camping/driving holidays. I've lived in Sydney, the Sunshine Coast and on North Stradbroke Island.... so a holiday for me is somewhere not in a holiday spot! Australia's got millions of lovely nooks and crannies to explore.

Usually tend to holiday within Australia. However, some will travel to New Zealand, Fiji, Bali, Thailand etc.

Australians like to travel!

You're right though, because we live on the other side of the world from Europe and America, we tend to visit countries in the south pacific like Fiji, Vanuatu and New Zealand.

We also like to travel around our own country. Tasmania is quite a popular destination for Australians as it has a lot of untouched wilderness and the climate is quite different form the rest of Australia.

I'm planning on having a holiday in Tassie next week.

Alot of aussies do a year working in London or anywhere in the UK, for shorter holidays we goto places in Australia, Gold Coast, NT, Sydney, Melbourne etc international trips we goto NZ to ski, Bali for beaches, Indonesia etc etc.

and for longer holidays like 6 weeks or so, Europe, USA, anywhere really.
