Well you can drink water straight from the tap in any Australian city, mind you some places in Queensland's is recycled (yuk)
I have go with Brad and say Shellharbour, my home town.. When it comes to it, if you don't love your home town, then you shouldn't be living there.
I love the entire Illawarra area, spanning from south of Sydney to Gerringong and Gerroa. The city centre of the Illawarra is Wollongong, approx 1.5 hours south of Sydney. Shellharbour is another 20mins south and is growing rapidly and is now more popular then Wollongong's CBD (for shopping anyway).
We are located between the Great Dividing Range and the beautiful beaches (best in Australia, if not the world). Being a short distance from the city you are away from the hustle and bustle but still close enough for if you need to go to the city of wish to commute for work.
Prices are slightly cheaper for the city and life is more laid back and carefree. It is a very safe place, I was born and bred here and intend to raise my own family here in the near future. I have never witnessed or known anyone harmed from violence or abuse, I'm sure it happens but I have been lucky.
We have all the amenities you would expect from a city including 4 hospitals and 2 private hospitals, child care centres, shopping centres, loads of schools both public and private, sports clubs, emergency services, etc..
I love living on the beach and would never dream of living anywhere else. We have a big population but it's not overcrowded. We have areas to suit everyone and anyone, from students, to young families, to senior citizens.
I could go on forever.
Why are you asking? |

Try going for a coastal town in NSW like Shellharbour. W00t!
Theres beaches, etc. there aren't that many people but they're friendly! |

I'm biased but, Adelaide.
It's not huge and it's not tiny. It's a perfect size, I think.
I like that it's not bustling with city life, but also not completely dead or a ghost town. Again it's in the middle. It's relaxed. Has nice beaches, restaurants and shops. The country side (i.e. wineries) is only an hour away. If you know other Australian cities, it's inbetween Melbourne and Perth. Sorry, not the best description. |

Canberra! In Canberra, water comes out straight from the tap, it's completely pure and you can drink it. The schools are really good, and it's a really safe place, the crime rates in Canberra are the lowest in Australia. There are many sight seeing places, and the nearest beach is only an hour away. It's also the nations capital. There are plenty of stores and malls, and many, many, MANY restaurants to choose from, whatever cuisine you feel like, you've got it. We have many animal shelters and animal stores as well, so finding a pet is no big problem. It's a really safe and friendly place- there's a reason it's the capital!
The grass is always green!!! |

I agree, Adelaide. Melbourne and Sydney seem too impersonal to me. They're too expensive, the amount of stuff to do is irrelevant to me (It's not like I like clubbing or drinking, and if I did, just how many pubs and clubs do I require in life?), too busy, too unsafe feeling... I love Adelaide. And for the record I think I'd enjoy living in Canberra too. Different lifestyle preferences. I don't live a 'quiet' life home alone either, I have friends. Once you make friends, it doesn't matter where you live, and once you have school or a job, your free time is limited too. Sure, Adelaide could be improved, but I enjoy it. Plus it has nice festivals! |
