I have seen two, both in country Victoria.

That was Grampians mountain range, and Mt. Wendouree outside of Ballarat. My parents live in Portland, and they say there are heaps there, you see them running down the street sometimes.

But I have lived in oz all my life and only seen 2 in the wild. They sleep all day high in the trees the lazy bastards!!

My back yard sometimes and I'm in the outer suburbs! Belair National Park is only 30Kms from the centre of Adelaide, plenty there. More active at night.

My husband and I stayed in a cabin at Koala Shores holiday park at Lemon Tree Passage near Port Stephens NSW. We came out onto our balcony to eat our meal and there was a German tourist taking photos of the tree outside our cabin. We looked up and there was a koala there. The staff at the park said the koalas always come there. It is the first and only time in my life I have ever seen a koala in the wild. Their website is www.koalashores.com.au The Featherdale Wildlife Park in Blacktown NSW is good if you don't mind seeing them at a zoo. They have a few koalas for patting and photographing with and young ones. They also have a cool python you can hold!

Tower Hill Reserve just west of Warrnambool, Victoria (same region as Portland & the Grampians).

In certain bush areas where there is enough of their food trees thats if MAN hasn't chopped them all down but because of the fires I bet heaps of the poor things have been burnt to death or they will starve to death because their food would have been burnt down

Mostly in Victoria... The Healsville sanctuary is about 50 miles North of Mebourne and Philip Island (also known for penguins) is about 60 miles Southeast. If you go to either of these locations you will be SURE to see one in their natural habitat. There's plenty of them in the bush, but they are usually asleep in a tree and hard to spot. It's interesting to note that of the more than 1000 varieties of Eucaliptus tree in Australia, the koala can only eat the leaves of 2 or 3 different types. Zoo's around the world have to import the right trees to maintain a koala colony. They have a huge appendix to deal with the alcohol and otherwise poisonous saps frrom these trees. Yes... they are snockered most of the time which contibutes to their lethargic behavior.

I have only ever seen one and it was walking across a back road in the country in the middle of the night. I you are wanting to see them you have to head out of the city and suburban areas. Areas that have eucalyptus trees growing

Any zoo... Western Plains, Taronga, Featherdale Wildlife Park, etc. You may be lucky to spot one having a snooze up a Gum Tree...got to be very lucky though. With all the bush fires at the moment the Koala population has decreased.

In the bush, mate.

Where there are plentiful of gum tress, that is what they eat and only eat. It has to be a place where there are not much people or any other predator.
