Where in regional australia would be the best place to settle with 2 small children? ? |
My husband and I are moving to Australia in a few months time and wondered if there is a demand for restaurant managers in a particular area of REGIONAL Australia? We would really love to settle in western australia but not sure if this would be best place for hubby to find work? Can anyone recommend a nice town to live with good schools and lots to do for young children? Additional Details I probably should have mentioned that due to visa requirements, we are not allowed to go to Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, The Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth! Sorry, but any other suggestions would be great! |

Kangaroo Island ? (joking)
What do you mean ' not allowed ' to go to these places?
Are you serious ?
Am I ever repeatedly glad I keep away from that twisted country the more I read on here.
Maybe with kids you're as well out of suburban places though.
Have a read of my "about me" !
Some raw truths. |

I am in Western Australia. There has been a big demand for hospitality restaurants and catering. The south-west of this state is very good to live in. This summer many eating places down there have been closing or reducing their times because they can't get any staff. The current economic downturn has affected things. One problem can be Federal legislation in regard to workers from the current new Labor Government, but that may not be a big issue with you? Just found this site... http://www.wrca.com.au/. You may get good contacts and info there. |

Busselton a nice spot for families and plenty of tourists pass through so I think you would get work it is in the South West as Dino suggested.
Welcome to Australia |

I live in Bunbury Western Australia and it is a wonderful place to raise a family. Lots of good school, and heaps for kids. Holiday programs and things for kids as well while parents are at work. I would highly recommend it |

I would suggest Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, Brisbane
Melbourne has the coolest climate out of them, Sydney (I would say) Has many good schools and good opportunities. (This goes for melbourne too) Brisbane gets VERY hot , Although it Has many good schools and good opportunities for jobs, This goes for Wollongong
For Restraunt jobs I would suggest Sydney |

What about Wollongong, a regional city 1.5 - 2 hours south of Sydney. There are lots of tourist towns nearby and plenty of restaurants all which would need a manager.
Western Australia is nice but the regional areas can be rather small, another thing with WA is the weather is a lot hotter then then on the east coast, they are quite prone to heat waves. WA or Perth haven't had a day below 30C so far this year, in Wollongong we have only had one day over 30C all the others have been mid to late 20Cs, much more comfortable.
Being the second biggest city in NSW, Wollongong (and the surrounding suburbs) have plenty for the children to do and all the amenities you need, plenty of public and private schools, parks, hospitals, etc.. Perhaps somewhere like Kiama would suit you, a beautiful seaside township only 15mins south of Shellharbour (the second 'city' of Wollongong but growing fast).
I could go on for hours, if you want any more info or my opinion on things, feel free to email me.
Welcome to Australia, wherever you choose, I'm sure will be great =)
EDIT - That's a shame, how long before you can move if you wanted to? Can you move to Shellharbour or do they consider neighbouring cities void as well?
I would try Adelaide since you didn't mention it, it's a city, not a big one but would still have more job prospects. Or even Ballarat in Victoria. Coffs Harbour, Cairns, Townsville, Geelong, Batemans Bay are some other areas I would look into. |

Bendigo (central victoria), i have grown up ther (i'm 14) and have loved every minute of it, your kids would love it too.
its not too small only 100,000 people (small for the space we have got) and not too big like geelong or melbourne.
for the people that gave me a thumbs down, have you ever lived in bendigo before, no? then mind your own business. and i was only saying geelong and melbourne are big compared to bendigo. |

Haven't you gone through the Immigration adviser site, And had a points score?
I would recommend a colder climate, why? Because there aren't any insects and snakes in those parts, plus catering will an essential part of the economy. people like hot food and hot drinks in those areas. And they get hungrier, lol.
i will be going to Australia when i have finished Uni in 2012, i don't see why not $85,000 ausie dollars average wage, thats even better than the pound, even after the currency conversion. |
