Try the Queen Victoria Markets or the Prahan Markets... both would cover all your needs. Otherwise wander down Chapel, or Bridge street...the selections are great, though Chapel is a bit more expensive.
As far as eating, Melbourne is awash with cafes, restaurants, etc. simply take your pick as to what you feel like at the time. There are also numerous places with all kinds of crafts and hand made goods if you visit the Dandenongs as well... and a treat to spoil yourself with a great day out also.
Have fun. |

Melbourne Central in the city is perfect, its a shopping centre its self and is across the road from Myer and there are little arcades everywhere to eat.

Well the correct answer is Chadstone...it has so many new stores that you are spoilt for choice.
Parking has increased and there are loads of cafes etc to take a rest.
All the big stores are there.
Its got everything.
Probably the best time to snag a bargin would be just before Christmas itself...check the hours first of course.
Good Luck. |

There are many great shopping centres in Melbourne, there are always sales at DFO but for a more variety of shops visit Chadstone, Highpoint, or City Central.
Chapel Street is quite classy and expensive but its a great place to shop; beautiful. |

Southland Shopping Centre in Cheltenham is the best, It's big and long so you can actually get lost in there. |

There are a number of shopping centres where you can buy everything you need, such as Chadstone, DFO, Highpoint etc. But they definitely lack atmosphere.
Melbourne City is the best place to go if you want nice little streets with cafes and restaurants, as well as good shopping in all price ranges. |

If you go to the city centre you won't need to go anywhere else that's for sure.
I would also visit Bridge Rd and get a few sales items. I know you said money's not a problem but one buy one $50 present when you can get two worth $80 for the same price. |
