Funnily I don't think he considers Melbourne to a medium sized city..
I come from the regional city of Wollongong in NSW about 1.5 hrs south of Sydney. I was raised here and fully intend to raise my own family here. It is safe, we has everything you need from a city and is close enough to Sydney for when you do need to go there. Most of our suburbs are along the coast meaning lots of beautiful beaches to play at, there are lots of community amenities such as parks, hospitals, child care, schools, baby health centres, etc.. There are some inland suburbs with cheaper property starting at around $300,000 for a decent family home. There is also plenty of rental properties around. We have sufficient employment and Sydney is close enough if you wish to commute. Our main industry is around the mines and steel works, so plenty of contractors with lots of different jobs.
It may not be the city for you but I would definitly recommend looking into it. |

What do you class as medium? I'm in Armidale (25,000) at the moment and its excellent for a young family. Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Bathurst, Townsville, Albury. You'd have to mention a general area and what you're looking for in a town! |

Toowoomba! It's got everything you need, rent is fairly cheap (compared to Brisbane anyway!) and it's full of gardens and trees and therefore has fresh air. I like it lol |

Have a look at Wollongong ,it has everything you would need without being a large city, close to Sydney right on the coast

I'm not an Australian but I have some relatives there...
I believe Melbourne isn't such a big city
and also Brisbane which is along the beach facing the Great Barrier Reef! |
