Where is the best place to live in Canberra for a young, single man with a high income?

Lemon Twist
Most young singles seem to migrate to either Kingston/Manuka - nice restaurants and good lifestyle (lake etc close by), or Turner/Braddon/Civic area - which doesn't do it for me ... a bit of rough element around (ok everyone I'm a freakin snob)

If you were after a house then Ainslie, Reid or Griffith, Red Hill areas would probably be the go but as a single man ... why bother?

Another answerer mentioned study .. if you were studying then Turner because ANU would be the only logical choice! :)

Depends what you want, what you're used to and where you'll be working/studying mate.

The first issue is Canberra's public transport is appalling. So unless you want a car you will want to live near to work/Uni.

Canberra has de-centralised town centres each with shopping malls cinemas bars, clubs etc.

Lucky for you in the last few years there has been aboom in apartments near to each of these centres. Unless you are working near one of the outer centres such as Tuggeranong, Belconnen or Woden I would recommend you concentrate on looking near the city or Manuka/Kingston both areas have some excellent new appartments.

If I was in your shoes though I'd rent or buy on the Kingston foreshore overlooking Lake Burley Griffin and buy a car.

Have a gander at the site below - these are for sale - but if you want to rent just contact the agent listed and they will have a rentals manager as well.

Good Luck
Joe

tentofield
Civic. It's close to everything.

Perfect place .... The Lodge.

No one lives there at present. Great location. 24 hours security. Needs a lot of money to live there

But Why??
little Johnny waywards place....

The Metropolitan on London Ctc. Great spacious apartments, very modern and chic. The building offers its tenants a gym, indoor heated pool, sauna and a spa. It also has great BBQ areas.

The location is superb; City/Civic. Great restaurants, pubs, shopping all at walking distance.

Civic, Kingston/Manuka if you work in the city there are always many highly priced apartments in the area either in the City, Reid or Turner.

If you are working near Belconnen or Woden there are apartments right near the centre of things.

Look on allhomes.com.au that is the best website for canberra property.

If money is no problem then you shouldnt have much trouble finding a suitable place.

Aim for the Inner North with suburbs like Braddon, Turner and O'Connor. Close to the city and great little pubs and cafes nearby like All Bar Nun and Debacle.

The Inner South will take you to Kinsgton and Manuka area. Again great pubs and cafes and movies.

The Southside is the best by far.

Good luck with the move and have lots of fun in Canberra.

Buy a house on Mugga Way, Red Hill. Only cost you a million or so.
