Melbourne definitely, especially during the summer and early autumn. The weather in Melbourne is fantastic. The fashion, nightlife, cafes and fine dining is a class above Brisbane.
If you get a chance, you should go to Melbourne during the Grand Prix weekend, Grand Final week or the Spring Racing Carnival, the atmosphere in the city is electric.

Brisbane is boring an mundane. If you want the surf and water sports go down towards the Gold Coast or northern N.S.W. If you want culture and a truly cosmopolitan experience it is Melbourne.

brisbane has nicer weather and a beachy feel, melbourne is bigger and more common, rains alot there.

Melbourne..but of course I am very bias! We have some of the best pubs and live music scene in the whole of the country. Brisbane is beautiful too...infact you couldnt go wrong with either choice - both have a lot to offer.

Melbourne is good for night life, Brisbane is good for water sports, what do you want?Melbourne is where you will see Aussie football, trams, ferry to Tasmania, historic buildings, lots of shops, great variety of restaurants and night clubs. Brisbane is warmer, into sun and swimming, water parks, movie world, close to surf beaches etc Have a good Holiday no matter where you go!

in brisbane lok for an umbrella lots of rain there at the moment melbourne the blue montains are really worth a look and you cant miss seeing the M.C.G its my mecca but i only watch footy there when i can i'm a west Aussie c'mon over here we got constant dry

Will try to answer this objectively (I lived in Brisbane)

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're into beaches and sun and fun, Brisbane. If you're more into a taste of the European heritage the British left behind, Melbourne.

Your choice really.
