Where should I go or stay if planning a trip to Australia for the first time?

I'm a 28 year old single Marine possibly travelling alone or with some buddies. Regardless, I really want to go!! I'll be there for two weeks.

You can't travel to Australia without going to Sydney and experiencing the beautiful harbour. On a warm sunny day it is brilliant. Government ferry services or private tour operators are plentiful and it is a relaxing way to spend most of a day. There are also plenty of nightclubs around the CBD or surrounding suburbs for nightlife. Bondi is a famous beach, but I would suggest a ferry across to Manly instead. It has a great surf beach. Sydney is our most 'grown up' city, and it is well placed geographically to allow you to make short domestic flights south to Melbourne or north to Queensland. There are plenty of accommodation choices for all budgets within walking distance of the main city centre. My only place I would warn any visitor to avoid is the main road, George Street, in Sydney, near the Town Hall in the middle of the city, on a Friday or Saturday night. This area is highlighted in the media constantly for young males fighting and being violent, often to random strangers. It is the area with lots of cinemas. Head to The Rocks, at the harbour end for a much better night.
If you like theme parks, the Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise in Queensland) is the place to go. It has Movie World, Dreamworld, Seaworld, Wet n Wild and a new water park that I don't know the name of (it's new). They all have different themes but essentially have all the usual types of coasters, rides etc. Lots of girls walking around in their bikinis on the beaches too!!!!
If you love sports, maybe you could research a sport you like or would like to see and plan around that. There are motor racing grand prix, or tennis opens, or 'footie' matches of the different codes (rugby league, rugby union or aussie rules).
Wherever you decide to stay, you won't be short of interesting places to visit or things to do.

i live in WA but there is not so much to do here and you are a long way away from the Eastern States so i would say go to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, The Gold Coast etc. Hope you have a good time. It's quite hot here atm but winter should come in approx June/July but we still have warm winters, like mild summers in Europe.

Aussies are a friendly bunch and also a muticultural society so i think you will have a good time. There is lots of culture in Melbourne i believe and there are theme parks in Qld. Good luck to you!

Take a road trip from Sydney to Brisbane, via Byron Bay on the north Coast of New South Wales. Byron is a fantastic place - great beaches, beautiful rainforests, laid back people, funky bars and a healthy alternative culture if you want it. One of the best mixes of all that is great about Australia. Definitely worth a drive, and easy to do this trip in two weeks or less.

My suggestion would be to fly in to Sydney then travel up the east coast - See Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Whitsunday Islands - then up to Cairns - 2 weeks would be perfect ( or a little short) for a fantastic fun time.

Thats awesome! I am from New Zealand and have been there 3 times!

OK, Now you absolutely MUST go to the Gold Coast, basically because its the place to be! They have everything there, many theme parks, shops for miles, anything you could think of!

A good and resonably cheap place to stay is Turtle Beach Resort. Its a beautiful place to stay and it is in the middle of town, so your close to all the action!

I'd suggest the train called the Ghan, because it takes you across Australia and you would see a typical Australian back yard so to speak, deserts, bushland, outback pubs, outback towns including meeting the average Aussie!!!!

Hey there, I'm from Melboune and we have a great night scene - so definitely check em out!! Also, if you can take a road trip down the Great Ocean Rd - well worth the drive!!

The gold coast is the best (i might be a little biased though, i live there).. Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane :) perfect australian holiday.. although that might be a little too much to do in two weeks.. regardless it is an awesome country and you will love it i promise

Sydney Mate, Its got everything you and your Buddies will love. Its got everything. You can either stay in Central Sydney (expensive) or as you are Marines, take the Ferry to Manly and stay at the Beach. Have a Beaut trip Cobber.

Hi, I suggest you can consider Perth, Australia.

In Perth, the notable attractions the Pinnacles, Fremantle (short trip from Perth city, about 20 to 25 minutes by train), along the Sunset Coast (many beautiful beaches such as Rockingham Beach, and then proceed to Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough Beach, City Beach, Trigg Beach and finally ends at Hilarys Marina Beach. Cottesloe Beach), Swan Valley is Western Australia’s. There are many more.

Hope that the suggestion helps in your year end planning.

If you need any other information, see if this website can help you.
