I am very picky. I want to live in a place where it is really warm in the summer but snows a lot in the winter. A small town but not in the middle of nowhere. And preferably close to a big city like Sydney, Melbourne, or Wollongong. Please either offer actual cities or give tips on how I should go about answering my question. Thank you Additional Details I only want to live in Australia. Nowhere else. And there are places in AU that snow everyday so please only answer if you know what you are talking about
Tasmania, Hobart. This is where i live.
It has your upper class and lower class suburbs like any city, but i feel like there is less difference than the really big city's.
As for climate: Hobart has a mild temperate oceanic climate with four distinct seasons. The highest maximum temperature recorded was 40.8°C and lowest was -2.8°C. The city itself rarely receives snow in winter; however, the adjacent Mount Wellington is often seen with a large covering in winter. And fern tree is a great place to live, it is a little higher than the base of the mountain. Is a 20 minute drive from the city, and in winter regularly receives snow.
Hobart's population currently is around 207,000 and climbing steadily.
This population may seem small, but there are plenty or businesses, schools and shops.
i see this city as quite a good choice for you. Good luck

Thredbo is both a snow resort in winter and boiling hot in summer.
Thredbo is closest to Canberra, from Canberra Wollongong is 2.5 hours, and Sydney 3.5/4 hours.
Thredbo is a small town but it's not some little hick town either. Cooma is another town nearby.
You could also look at the Blue Mountains, though it is not the norm to snow but it does on occasion get some light dustings. Blue Mountains is closest to Sydney.
Sydney, Melbourne, Wollongong (my home) do not get snow and never have.
