The cheapest place to get to from Australia is New Zealand. It also the nearest and safest of our neighbours. For a really different culture to our own I would suggest Thailand or Vietnam.

Fly to Singapore and travel into Malaysia,Thailand for backpacking. For a more relaxing holiday go to the South Paciic Fiji or New Zealand, both are easy flights from Aussie.
