Melbourne and Sydney are the most similar cities in Australia (probably even the world). So it's hard to choose between the two. I call Melbourne Sydney's twin sister. They have the most similar buildings, people and culture.

The only difference is the climate of those cities.

Sydney's climate is much more relaxed than Melbourne's. Like, in one day, it can get extremely cold and then the next it can be hot. Also, you can even experience summer and winter in ONE day.

On average, Melbourne is much colder than Sydney, in the winter. It's probably the coldest capital city in Australia (Hobart coming first, of course).

So yeah, your choosing depends on the weather. Like, both cities are so similar. If you prefer a cooler weather, go to Mel. If you prefer a much settled weather, go to Syd.

Each city has it's charms and down sides.
Personally, I preferred living in Melbourne to living in Sydney but I now choose not to live in either and I live in Queensland but not in the capital Brisbane.

Why would you make a choice of those two cities of Australia to move to?
We have much more to offer than just any of the capital cities.

I say Melbourne :)
The culture hub of Australia! Think food, art and fashion. A lot of intersting people to meet here, from all walks of life!
Also, in my personal opinion (I'm from Melb., and don't mean to be bias) but I feel that the people in Melbourne are a bit friendlier than the people in Sydney (who are still friendly though!), and are less 'yuppie'- more down to earth :)

Dangerous
There's not much wrong with Sydney but I think Melbourne is better.

Sydney, is beautiful but Melbourne beats it!!! Melbourne is a great place to live in you have the city, you have beaches (but i would say beaches are better in syd), it's a really nice place... it gets hot in summer as you probably heard about the bush fires in vic... but personally i would vote melb it's great!!! :D

There is a lot of rivalry between melbournites and sydneysiders so you really shouldn't ask anyone who lives in either city as they will be bias.

Saying that, I am a Sydneysider and I vote Sydney :)
And just so you know, Sydney is a hotter and more relaxed london, and melbourne is just a smaller version of Sydney.
