Where to move in Australia? |
My boyfriend and I are moving to Australia this summer, but we don't really know where to in Australia...
We both are going to be looking to work in restaurants and/or bars. I want to live on the coast and we need to live where it's not necessary to own a car. We're both wikid big foodies, love to cook, wine tastings, dorky culinary things of that sort.
He suggested Perth, but neither one of us really know anything about the major cities.
Any suggestions? |

Either Sydney or Perth would fit the bill.
Sydney is much larger and so has more of everything. The nearby Hunter Valley wine region is a wine and foodies paradise and Sydney has some really fantastic restaurants and plenty of related work. Its location on the east coast also makes it far less isolated than Perth and you'll find more places to go and things to do within a reasonable reach. Its public transport is excellent.
Perth is also a great place but of course it's very isolated and much smaller than Sydney. The Margaret River region is fairly close and has amazing wine and food.
I think you would probably love both places, but if you're only coming for say 12 months, Sydney is probably the best place to head. |

Perth in Western Australia is awesome, however it is isolated and accomodation is very expensive (Due to the mines). Anywhere on the East coast is great. It is a little cheaper and the weather is generally nice. The further North you go the hotter and more humid it will be. Sydney in NSW is ok, it has everything, it will probably be relatively simple to get a job there. Brisbane in Queensland is another good choice which is similar to Sydney with better (Hotter/sunnier) weather and better beaches. Wollongong in NSW is also a nice place. All the south coast NSW towns like Kiama to Batemans Bay are beautiful, but can be expensive and difficult to find work. Good luck and have fun when you are here. Hope this helps. |

I would say Melbourne or Sydney.
If you were to go on the coast it is harder to get around, and it is very touristy therefore "holiday all the time mode" and its a bit too chilled and relaxed for everyday life.
Perth the main city is not too bad, but it can be very dry and the suburbs arnt very attractive.
Melbounre is beautiful all over and had HEAPS of bars, clubs and resteraunts to chose from.
Melboune has a range of seaons and weather.
Alot of people either perfer to live in Melbourne or Sydney. They are the best places.
alos Melourne has alot of transport you dont need to own a car. There are so many trams, train, buses, and cabs. Aswell as great shopping destinations and nightlife.
Adelaide is ****. Boring and small. its basically like a very bug country town. Melbourne and Sydney are the cities!

For what you are interested in. I would reccomend the GoldCoast area in QLD. It's is right on the beach and is a real tourist location, so there are HEAPS of bars and resaurants with great food!
You don't have to drive far to get into the rainforests either. So you can enjoy city style living, but enjoy nature on weekends!!

Sounds like Sydney's your best bet if you don't want to get a car! And the food is incredible - HUGE range of restaurants, bars, etc. |
