If i were to believe what the media tells me i would have to believe that Americans are the most arrogant, self righteous, ignorant people in the world.Luckily for me i don't base my opinions on what the media tells me an entire nation of people are like.Although i try to remain open minded, some of the responses to this question from people who are obviously American seem to prove these widely spread rumors true.Luckily for me i don't judge an entire country based on the answers a few of it's duller citizens give either, but it is starting to seem to me that way to many of those Americans that would confuse Austria with Australia have access to the internet. So i choose Australia, not because Australians are any smarter, more accepting of diverse people and religions or more humane when it comes to caring for its own people, even though they are,I choose Australia because Australians don't seem to make asses of themselves a tenth as much as Americans do either on Y!A or on the world stage.

Australia, I can walk down any street, in Australia day or night and not fear being shot. I have freedom to do what I want to do and I am looked after with free or near free medical treatment and hospital stays covered by the government, I do not have to fear the police, unless I break the easy going laws, and bribes are not asked for or expected,

Australia, i live here and there is a common misconception that we live in the desert with pet kangaroos.
Most people live in the mists of a place like this:

Thats melbourne where i live anyway!

I got to admit if i had to choose between living in Australia and the US i would choose Australia. Less guns, better educational opportunities and better health care. Also a better awareness of the world and i believe greater respect for many different people and cultures. Having said all this in about a years time i will up and leave Australia for more exciting and interesting places (not the US). There is a big world out there waiting to be explored. I am wondering if anyone but the 10% of Americans who have passports actually know that.

Australia!! I'm from Ireland and have spent alot of time in both countries. I spent the whole of 2007 in Oz and halfway through the year I had to go to a friends wedding only for a week in america. Spent that whole week thinking about Oz and how much i wanted to get back!! The people are awesome...and whoever said in a previuos answer aussies are racist, what the hell?! They are not! I'm sure they have their fair share like every country. LOVE LOVE LOVE Australia...man i should be a patron for your country!! :)

Both!

And no, i wouldn't live in fear of "being shot" if i lived in america. Most american's aren't psychopathic gun toting hicks.

ll_jenny_ll here
Sleepy but can't sleep .. you are aware that a lack of sleep can make for people making bad judgements , we're NO more racist that many other cultures .. .It really is a misconception ....

having said that I think I would STILL prefer to live in AU .. at least I am pretty sure I won't be shot by a gun toting mad-man
(nb it has happened here BUT infrequently)

In terms of safety I would much rather live here in Australia. I can walk down the street without fear of being shot and stuff.

In terms of multiculturalism, I would much rather live in the United States (New York/California) since based on my experiences, I've noticed them to be more accepting and less racist than Australians.

Overall, I would still say Australia though. After all, it's my home.

USA, Australia censors videogames, plus Australia is 90% desert, and Australia is more racist of other cultures, unless they are white, Australians like to think they are enlightened and better than Americans. But really they are crasser than us
