Australia's neighbouring countries include New Zealand to the southeast and Indonesia, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea to the north.

But Please consider

A bordering country and a neighboring country are not the same thing. In order to border one country needs to physically touch the other. New Zealand and Australia, while neighbors in the same vicinity, do not border.

Australia is an Island ...no borders

australia is an entire continent (the only "country" that is also an entire continent) ... It's kinda like a big island, so nothing BORDERS it, in the sense of touching it..

However, nearby are many other islands

New Zeland and Papua New Guinea are pretty near by..,

so are Fiji and Tonga

the kinda biggish island below Australia is Tazmania, one of the "states" of australia.. used to have a friend from there.. we teased her about being really weird because she was from "Down under down under"

As mentioned, since we're an island continent here, we don't have any actual bordering countries...but a few close by.

Closest is Indonesia - to the north, and Papua New Guinea (which borders Indonesia on the island of Irian Jaya)

Then across the Tasman Sea is our next closest neighbour, New Zealand!

After that, Fiji and Polynesia - but they're quite far out and realistically, closer to New Zealand than here.

the closest country is Papua New Guinea which is only about 150 kms away.

Mel
Australia is an island, we don't border any countries.

The closest countries are Fiji, New Zealand, Indonesia and Antarctica.

I hope your not Australian and need to ask that question.

You don't mean A-U-S-T-R-I-A do you?

The small country near Germany in Europe?

Marion W
The closest country would be New Zealand. Since you have a computer then Google Australia. You will get all kinds of info for your school project.
